Alright I just moved to Battle Creek area from the saginaw area and a roomate and I live in some apartments. Well our backdoor of our apartment walks out to about 80 acres of woods. Deer just seem to come right behind our place. Just 20 minutes ago i had a buck and a doe 20 yards behind the place i walked out they didnt even care. What i need to know is can i shoot these deer right here or is there a certain distance you must be away from buildings to shoot deer.

You might want to post this in the game law forum.
I think it's 450 feet UNLESS you have permission to do so otherwise, by the owner or occupant.
This law does not apply to target shooting tho.

In addition to the 450 ft law you need to check your city/township ordinance on discharging of weapons. A lot of cities (including Battle Creek?) do not allow any discharge - bows included.

i'm not sure im techinically in the city, i live in emmett township. How would i go about finding this out? Because we do have a stand in the woods and we seen other stands out there also.

Your local government office should be listed in the Yellow pages. Give them a call and I'm sure they can provide any information on local weapons discharge rules.
Remember the 450 foot rule is in effect statewide. You would probably have to get permission from all the people in your apartment building and the landlord.

yea, i won't try shooting anything behind my apt. I figured i couldn't i thought it might be different for bows over guns. Anyways i wouldnt need a deer come running up and dieing in the parking lot dont think that would look good. Just use the stand thats placed out in the woods and see if were allowed to hunt here. Or looks like ill be traveling back to saginaw.

oh, im looking for a challenge i'm real excited this year about bow hunting. I can't wait to go back up home for the opener. I just don't have anywhere to hunt here during the week. I go to college down here and i have some time after classes to hunt at night during the week just no where to go. Hopefully i'll do some good hunting up at home i got my blind set up near a pretty good rub line looks promising. Its pretty much a cross way between the fencerow a cornfield and beet field. I belive they come through this part of woods to keep cover to walking into the beet field so we will see opening day.
