For any crossbow owners/hunters out there.....

I am in the market for a new crossbow. Looking at the Horton brand and Ten Point brand, all are good quality bows. And, while they all shoot real fast (310 -340 fps), they are all realively heavy at about 8.5 pounds +.
Then, when you add all the other stuff, they can go over 10 lbs.

Just noticed that the Fred Bear Co. & Jennings makes a crossbow that weighs in @ a svelt 6.7 pounds and shoots at 340 fps!!! Its called the Maxpoint and I believe that it is put our under several brands: Buckmaster, Jennings, Fred Bear, etc, all the same bow though.

Anybody have one of these, How is the quality, reliabilty, stregnth etc.?

Last year, on a whim, I purchased a Parker crossbow and sent it back to Cabelas immediately, It was a real POS. This one however, looks to be pretty good and the weight and speed combo is very attractive.

Appreciate any feedback.

I bought a PSE Viper last year because it was lighter than Ten Point and some of the others. So far I have no complaints as far as accuracy and as I said it is lighter than Ten Point, Horton and some of the others.

I have hunted with Horton Crossbows for 10 years now and love them. As far as the weight I guess it's never bothered me because I sling it over my shoulder while walking and it lays on my lap while hunting. They are all nose heavy and take some getting use to. When I had to get into x-bow hunting the only ones were Horton and Barnett and Horton was the more reliable bow.

Go and pick put some up to your shoulder and see what is comfortable.

I have a Maxpoint Crossbow my Uncle has one also and a Exclibur. We have shot them all. Excalibur is the best but the Maxpoint runs neck and neck. I can put the Maxpoint in a rifle rest and shoot it, if I would leave the bolt in the target and shoot a nother bolt the Maxpoint would drill that bolt. If you look at the Excalibur and the Maxpoint the stocks the trigger and safety are the same. I would put my Maxpoint up to any other crossbow and out shoot them but an Excalibur. Like I said it will shoot bolt on bolt no other crossbow I or my Uncle have shot has ever done that but the Excalibur.

Excalibur all the way

I have shot one for 5 years and my buddy also shoots one and neither of us have ever had a problem. 1 benifit to the excalibur is you can change the string yourself and perform all maintenance yourself.
