View Full Version : My release is in the garbage

A few years ago I bought a Tru Fire Split Fire release because I liked the way it fit my hand compared to some of the smaller ones. Every once in a while it would not grip the string and would slip off with very little tension so I got in the habit of double checking before every shot.
Well, yesterday was the last straw. As I got to about 2/3 rd draw the dam thing let go. My hand was close enough to my face that the release smacked me in the mouth and chipped my front tooth. Even though I start my draw low I still can't find the arrow. Just glad it happened now instead of when it really mattered.
Anyhow, what kind do you use and how do you like it ?

my first release was one of those ball bearing releases.......crap!!!!
not only did it eat up your serving, but it also liked to slip like that once and a while... i have two cobra releases and see no reason to spend more money on fancier ones. my favorite thing about these releases is how light the trigger pull is. oh yeah if i remember correctly they were only like $25

Everyone has difference experiences. I had a Cobra release. I was drawing back an arrow back, and the release sort of just broke apart and flew every where. I finally ended up finding all the pieces, but was never able to find the arrow.

That evening I have got a Scott's Little Goose and like it very much. I have been using the Lil Goose for many years.

Ya I like a lot of people here love Scott releases.

But as for your tru-fire, I think there is a set screw on the underside of the trigger that you can adjust the prongs closer together.

same thing happened to a freind of mine, except the cracked tooth, sent it to the company and they fixed it.company sent note saying don't try adjusting or luberacating anymore. The bad thing is you are going to have to try and find another one that gives you the same anchor point, and it's getting to season.

Yep, got many a fat lip from releases disengaging in the middle of the draw. Now I keep my finger pushed up behind the trigger as a safety precaution.

I was shooting with fingers for 20 yrs. This yr. I changed to a release . What a drastic difference that has made . I bought a Tru Fire Badger release . single caliper , trigger pull . And always keep my finger behind the trigger on the draw . I was warned about the premature release .

Well, you're not the only one - I think mine if a true fire and I've also punched myself in the mouth. Hurt like heck, but now I don't feel so bad knowing I'm the only one it's happened to.

Now when I draw back I hold it a litle lower, where I won't get myself in the face if it happens again .

Punched myself in the face a few times...Until I learned like a lot of you to keep my finger against the back of the trigger during my draw. Hasn't happened since.

I picked up a Tru Fire Extreme on Sat. and using the same anchor point my first 6 shots were 8 in. high at 20 yds. Moved the pin up and all is well, just have to get use to the feel.
Thanks for the finger behind the trigger tip, kind of like having the safety on. Not sure if it would have solved the problem with the old one but if I can't trust it to hold there is no way I could have confidence in my shot.

I did find the arrow about 25 yds. directly behind the target using a method I used when my boys first started to shoot. Take a pitchfork and run it through the grass in lines about 3 ft. apart with the tines just scraping the soil. I picked one up at a garage sale for a few bucks and found many arrows with it.

I've punched myself a few times when my True Fire let go early. I double check to make sure it has a good grab of the string and always put my finger behind the trigger.

I have been using the same release for about 23 years now. I shoot with my fingers bare-handed. I have never punched myself in the face, but have kicked myself in the butt a few times when the dang release doesn't work perfectly ;) <----<<<

i have a gator double jaw release from bracklynn (sp?) i believe. Hasn't let me down yet. *knock on wood*. wasn't expensive or anything, but it is kinda nice not to use a nock loop or any other doohicky not to pinch the nock.

I have been using the same Scott release for 15 years now and have no intentions of changeing. It costs a bit more (around $60) give or take bit like I say no misfires except by me in 15 years..

about 11 years on a fletch hunter. will never change unless they re-invent sliced bread with one. scott lil-goose and the fletch hunter are very similar in design, very few parts to break.....simple is best.

I use the most simple release there is, shooting glove with one finger above the arrow and two below. I have tried releases a couple of times. I just shoot better with fingers. I dont have anything against using a release,
as long as it works for you.

don't get much simpler than using fingers does it. ;)

PITBULL- I know the feeling. I shot with tabs for 20 yrs. I'm more consistant with a release but sometimes think about going back. One less thing to worry about in the woods.
