The past couple years I have been lucky enough to find a couple decient places to hunt. however, it seems like 80% of the time I get out to my stand, early, I take the time to spray down with scent killer and walk with the wind in my face, get all set up and then an hr before dark "prime time" a hunter or just a person walkin through the woods comes by. It is really frustrating and I even had on guy scare off one of the biggest bucks I have seen in the woods. i called it in with my can call and it was about 45 yards in the thick and with no warning turn and ran off. I was wondering what was going on and then I looked into the field behind me and there in the middle was some guy just standing there with his bow in his had 30min before dark???? :bash: Has anyone had problems with this or is it just me. I am hopin this year will be better, I guess time will tell.

It has happened to me many times as well.
For the most part (on public land) I prefer when other hunters leave the woods a 1/2 hour early or when they show up late. Nothing gets the deer moving like a bunch of "weekend warriors" running back to their trucks because their feet are cold or the game is on.. :smile-mad
The downside is that the deer are often in a hurry and super spooky...

I hunt at my parent's property ( 10 acres) in Clarkston which butts up to vacant school property. I sit at the edge( this is where the deer walk by) of my parent's property so neighbors walking their dog or just walking alone go by about 1 out of every 3 sits. I used to get really mad because they knew I was out there and I thought they were just trying to ruin my hunt. But I know they have every right to walk that area as I do so I just would let it go. One advantage is the deer are used to people walking back there and would actually hang back in the thick stuff until the coast was clear and then make their way to me.
I actually had a lady walking her dog stop and say hi and then kept walking and not 10 minutes later a deer comes by and I put her in the freezer.
I guess this just part of hunting in a semi-rural area soon to be residential area. I just learned to accept it and I think the deer have too.

Ultradennis, I'm hunting 18 acres in Clarkston. A couple of seasons back, I had the neighbor walk his dog right behind my stand (I hunt the property line, so he was on his own). The little yipper was barking up a storm. I called out and waved down to him just to let him know I was there, and he walked away without incident, though I thought my evening was ruined. Not 10 minutes later I shot a decent 7 point. You're exactly right though -these suburban deer are used to human activity and will tolerate much more than we think.

I have had deer just come in just minutes after someone walks by. Deer are smart. Theyu will follow someone. If they are doing the following, they know where the threat is.

You are all correct! Thank you. We must remember that we all have different ways to enjoy our recreational pursuits, as long as it is legal and fair chase.

LOL... I wanted to put the old lady walking the dog in the ground but I just waited for the deer to show up. :) and put the deer in the freezer.
Tom, if you don't mind me asking where abouts are you hunting in Clarkston?
I am off of Ridgewood Rd. By Andersonville Rd.
