View Full Version : So where yah goin for opening day?
One week away :) :) :) :)
I'm sticking close to home myself
I'm planning to hunt some watering holes. Got a hunch they're going to be thirsty with this hot dry weather. I know its making me thirsty :corkysm55
I got some ven steaks for opening day eve. We're going to cook those up and watch escanaba in da moonlight. Then I think I'm going to hunt all day for the opener. Unless of course I don't need to :D
How bout everybody else?

I will be sitting in one of my favorite trees dreaming of deer...hopefully something shows up. Looking forward to the peace and quiet that comes with sitting in a tree.

My stands are walking distance from the house. Little less that 1/2 mile hike. I hope to get the 1st off, my request for time off is on the bosses desk. My plots are bringing the deer in but most are after hours. Once it gets colder, I'll be a little more excited.

Well I really had my heart set on going up to the cabin with the boys Thurs. nite, but my son is bound and determined for me to let him go in late to school on Fri. so he can hunt opening morning with me in my home stand...I'll pry end up doing that and then head for the cabin in Oceana/Newaygo county area around noon.
The home stand is looking pretty active...I quess i'll know who to thank if I shoot a dandy out there opening morning.

Goin' ta deer camp! Coming from Ga on Wed night, cuttin wood, playin' Bow poker on thursday (bring your dollars:lol: ) and hunting central Mi fri-sun, hitting western side (Barry co.) sun night-tue.
On another note, I went to my local bow shop last night, and the old man took a nice 8pt buck 15 inch inside spread on sunday morning at a quota managment hunt. But get this... the deer was 2 1/2 yrs old, and only weighed 113lbs. I asked him if that was the norm around here, he said "son, thats a good weighing buck for here". Nice racks, small bodies..... Hey I could get used to that!:D

I will be about 12 foot up a tree in my new buddy stand. I just picked up 80 acres of farm property to hunt within the last 2 weeks. Between the huge Oak trees, even bigger Beech trees, the wild apple trees, beans, corn and the creek.....yea..I'll be in the woods in Gratiot County.
This year I won't be hunting over bait...I will be hunting over a buffet

Right now no plans, maybe hunt the back yard if I work out my stand ordeal. Then come dark I will change my clothes and take the dogs to the woods. The following weekend I am hoping to hit southern Iosco County with my sons.
D Hunter,
I coon hunt Gratiot County. There are plenty of deer there. You should have a good season. I have entertained bow hunting out there many times.

Copemish, Manistee County. Sitting about 18 feet up in a pine tree along the edge of a clearing about 25 yards from a giant oak. Lots of tracks running through the area. This is my first choice, but I have two other stands to fall back on depending which way the wind blows. Good luck to all.

I'll be in the central U.P. The forecast for S. Michigan calls for a high of 72 on the opener, in the U.P. they are predicting a low of 42 and a high of 65 on Friday. No rain is predicted in the long range forecast. Last year we had snow in the U.P. during early Oct.

Behind my house. I've got some younger hunters coming onto the property in the evening to hunt and hopefully take some does...or a big buck. We will shoot our bows in the afternoon before we go to the stands and hopefully have some tenderloing frying in the evening :)

Probably Hesperia. Usually the property owner takes the cows out for me by then. There's something about having a bunch of long horns parading past me instead of deer that just doesn't excite me. Second choice White Cloud State land.

If your talking about the pulblic land in Dexter Pickney, I got an eye and a couple of bucks while I was coming back from squirrel hunting. They were hanging out at a watering hole off the beaten path... With this weather, it's no surprise.

I'll be heading up to the cabin in Cheboygan, There we have 48 arces and it sides in with state land. I have several stands out. Think I'll stay near the cabin the first day since we have a nice 8pt hanging around our food plot. Then the next day take a 6mile drive back into state over looking 3 apple trees where there was a nice 10pt last year.
Just wish all a happy and SAFE hunting trip.;)

I work as a Financial Controller for a real estate development company.
This will be my 1st experience bow hunting, and my company owns 95 acres of undeveloped farmland in Livingston County. Got the "OK" from the owners to hunt it and will be setting up a tree stand this week! SWEET!
Nice to have a spot pretty close to home to get a few outings out this season.
Went out and bought a beginner (??) bow at Bass Pro - A PSE Nova. Like it so far, shooting pretty well (groupings w/in 3-4 inches at 20 yards). I figure I won't try to kill anything outside of 20 yards my first venture out...
Adreline is pumped! ;)

Ingham county at the Lansing Grand River assembly complex building Cadillacs. :16suspect 10 hour days dont leave me much time to get into the woods. Im glad I saved all my vacation time for late Oct- early Nov.
