Whats everyone's choice for their base layer of clothing?

Under armour first layer. Wool socks!
The armour keeps you cool or warm based on the conditions.
I do have a question on scent control. I will keep my outer most layers in the container or bag until I get to my location. If you are up hunting for a week and can't wash your under clothes, what do you do?

If you cannot wash them, hang them outside for a few hours, near pinetree's if available.

I wear some $5-$10 spandex/nylon/poly/wicking what ever type shirt and bottoms I got from Walmart on clearance. I checked the materials and the were nearly identical to what I found in the expensive stuff. Under armor would be my choice if money was not an issue. The cheap stuff works great and feels comfortable to me. Probably saved $40 or more dollars.

Doc, do you have several pairs of tops and bottoms then? I have a couple of the armour and then a couple of the cheap ones. I also have the good old cotton long johns as a fall back if I get too stinky.

I have two shirts and one bottom. One shirt is long sleeve and skin tight like the Underarmor. I have another shirt that is heavier and zips up the front. I can wear each seperately of together for a little extra depth. The bottoms fit like tights(pretty much what they are). If the temperature is moderate I will wear just the bottoms under my lightly insulated hunting pants. If a little cooler I pull my long johns over top of my tights. I think the important thing is when wearing the long johns is to have a wicking/breathable lawyer underneath and over top over of them. As far as smell the underarmor or cheap stuff will dry quickly if placed in front of a fan or hung out in a nice breeze. So you could theratically wash them by hand in Baking soda water every other day and be dry by morning. But be sure that it is not going to rain or freeze when hanging them out.
Last spring turkey I got to compare a cotton base lawyer(long johns) with the tights I bought. I did feel a little sweat with the tights(underneath long Johns) but not for long and I felt really comfortable (warm but not hot) in them. Later in the week we woke up and some toilet water leaked on my tights. I wouldn't wear them after that so i just put on the long johns as a base lawyer. I sweat my butt off felt much hotter and never really dried out underneath. So I can say from experience that this stuff makes a considerable difference especially if you are an overweight slob that sweats by just looking at a flight of stairs.

I have the Mossy Oak APX base layer shirt . It's camo ,so I'm going to use it during the early season and see if it helps keep me a little cooler .It is supposed to wick away the prespiration ,and keep you cooler in the warmer weather .

I thought I would give the new hitech clothing a try last year. I got expedition weight thermal underwear then layered a Polartec 300 outfit under my regular thinsulate hunting suit. What a difference!!!!!!! I even wore it ice fishing when it was below zero, and remained comfortable the whole time. What was even more amazing was I could move. I am looking forward to using this outfit on some late winter hunts.

I picked this stuff up on sale last week. It was relatively inexpensive although slightly more that the average thermals...anybody else ever use it?

Where did you find the polartech 300 outfit and can you remember approximately how much it cost you?

I've tried some of these base layers and sock liners and so far they are great. They apparently have silver in the fabric that inhibits bacterial growth so they don't smell even after a few days. I bear hunted the first 4 evenings at 80+ degrees a couple of weeks ago and wore the same xstatic camo shirt and liners inside rubber boots each time and they did not stink at all after. Using no scent soap and shampoo, wearing these base layers with scentlok over them if it's not too warm out, paying attention to headcover, hands, feet and breath, and Always playing the wind is my approach this fall.
In any event, it's wise to follow the advice of experienced backpackers and mountaineers and not wear Any cotton next to your skin or at all.

I got it from Cabelas. The price ... well, considering I am really and I mean really tight ... I wasn't too convinced I was making a good decision. Now I would say they weren't a bad price at all. They were only slightly more than the expedition weight thermal underwear.
When it comes to my outdoor gear, I try to forget the actual prices as quickly as possible.

it sounds like that under armour stuff works pretty good. do you guys just wear the basic one that they have because i noticed they have a few different kinds of fabric that they use.
