Just wanted to get everyones opinion on string silencers that they prefer. I switched to leeches last year and have been very happy with their performance. I have heard that you can gain some speed based on the type of silencer you choose. Has anyone here confirmed that. I just broke one of mine last night practicing and will be replacing it and it made me thought of the pros and cons of each type.

Thanks

When they first came out I saw a video on the effect the have of dampening vibration.
It was impressive. They were compared to the rubber spider type and the yarn type.
Compared to other string devices I don’t think the difference in speed would be a concern.

depending on the style of bow you have is what determines that. I have seen that the newer bows like the hoyt tech series don't need to have the leeches replaced if they break off. Leeches are by far the best thing going out there, but they do break, even the new kevlar ones.

I'd use just about anything Sims puts out. When they first came out with the leeches, the bow string cut them in half within 100-150 shots. When I went through this, I called them and they said they had just redesigned the leech to "beef" the string surface area up. Then, they sent me quite a few of them, along with other products they make. The new ones have never broke off. I am sure (since they are a rubber product) will break in time tho. At that point I will replace them with new. They do make a difference in noise reduction. Sims also makes a difference with their customer service....

I am shooting a PSE Firestorm @ 70 pnds, 30" draw, Carbon Express 400, 100 grain tips.

Thanks for any input....

Go with leeches and limb savers. If you dont want to pay $10 for the leeches, use the cat whiskerssp? (rubber strip tied on and clipped), and the savers.
Thats my .02.

I think the cat wiskers work just as good, and cheaper too.As far as speed anything you put on the string slows your arrows fps.The problem with the leeches are the string will cut them sooner or later(probally sooner)

I would have to agree with Zakkar,

Mine did the same thing after 75 shots. I sent them an email and they told me that it should not happen that quickly. Stated around 500 shots before replacing them. Then sent me a set and a few extras for my time. I am a LimbSavers customer for LIFE.

I would pay the extra to get 100% satisfaction guarantee.

My 2 cents

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am also a huge fan of limb saver products. The leeches just dont last long because there so soft and the string is cutting them the way there tied in. :)

String leeches hands down. The new kevlar ones on my Hoyt have gone at least a 1000 shots. They will break and I am expecting it anyday but when set up right, the newer ones do last longer. Worth every penny and the time.

I use cat whiskers . I don't care about speed loss ,just a quiet bow for deer hunting . They are durable ,and match the camo pattern of my bow too .http://michigan-sportsman.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Well, I went last night and bought some new leaches for my bow. I've seen on some of the Drury Outdoor videos where they doubled up on them when the installed them on their bows. Meaning 2 on top and 2 on bottom in alternating patterns. Thought I would try the same. Not sure if it makes any difference at all. I installed them last night and shot 25 or so times. Couldn't really tell the difference between 2 or 4. I going to record my shooting session tonight and play it back and see if I can hear anything.

I'm a HUGE Sims fan but the String Leeches have never done me justice. I've tried them on every bow I've ahd and they either break very quickly (less than a hundered shots) or fly out completely if I don't serve them in.

I've since gone back to the tried and true cat whiskers tripped nice and tight to about the size of a silver dollar and they're just as quiet, last longer and are much cheaper.

I have Sims everywhere else though from Limb Savers to Modular Stab to Grip Wrap and on and on...

I've got at least 3000 shots on the leeches I have now, my second set in 3 years. I wouldn't use anything else on my string.

Vibration is an amazing thing. I bought a plain (steel?) stabilizer by Cobra at Kmart about 20 years ago and it spent various time on 3 different bows. This summer I had it installed in the second slot of my current bow and finally the vibration snapped the threaded insert right at the base. That was with a good stabilizer, (2) Simms built into the riser, (2) leeches and (2) Limb Savers.

I use the same cat wiskers that were put on my bow back in 2001. I also use limb savers.
