View Full Version : Worst Nightmare!!!!

I had the morning off, so i went outside to shoot a little. I had noticed that my bow had been a little louder than usual, but didnt think too much of it. well it started to group a little different, and when i would bang on the limb with my palm(to try to see where the extra noise was coming from) a rattle would come from down around the bottom cam. So i looked, and sure enough, there was about 5 cracks in the riser where it spits apart to make room for the cam!! What do i do, this close to season?
I have a pse carrera, and i know it would take to long to order a new set of limbs. This is a nightmare. I guess its time to go look for a new bow by the end of the weekend. I havent been looking for a new bow, so if anyone has any preferences or tips on what bow to get, help me out. i am looking at a AR 34, maybe a mathews, but i dont want to spend that much, or perhaps another pse. I dont know, kinda spoiled the excitement of looking forward to the season.
Also, does anyone know where a good place to get a bow would be. I live in Lake Odessa, and there is a nice shop just down the road, but it doesnt have a large selection (gonna go check it out today) but i can go to gander mountain in GR or lansing, other wise i dont know? HELP!!!

chrisjan 81,
just got off the phone with the company and they don't have any in stock. two weeks is the fastest i can get those limbs for you. one thing you could look at doing is if you go to a pse dealer maybe trading in your bow, even with the cracked limb ( it is the limb that is cracked not the riser i assume) and have the dealer replace the limb when it gets in. if i can be of any help let me know.
i would look at the ar 31 as well as the 34. the scorpian is a nice little bow as well.

Sucks yes, but not the "worst." At least it isn't Nov. 7th.
Carrera's have been known to have limbs blow up. That is what that class action lawsuit was about.
And theyr'e not going to give you much for a Carrera as a trade in so you might as well keep it and wait.

I agree with Banditto here. PSE offers a lifetime warranty on all of their product. I would get a new set up, as bad as that sounds, and wait for the replacement part.
You can always sell the old bow on eBay when you get it fixed.

Thanks East Bay, i actually took the bow to the proshop down the road (2 miles away) and they said it would be about 2-3 weeks. :( Now when you say that pse doesnt have any in stock, where do they get them from? just curious. here is the thing though, i believe the bow is 4-5 years old...well it could be more, i got it from andersons before they went under... and had always shot aluminum, this summer i went to Carbon Express 300, much lighter arrows, and the limb busted. :bash: Do you think they are too light and thats what caused it? I may add arrow weight tubes when i get the new limbs.
But i did pick up a AR 31 while i was there, looks and feels really nice, (SOOO TEMPTING) just the price tag of 599.99 will keep me from buying one right yet. I also have a 10 year old pse that my sister shoots (she is away at school) i will set it up and use the first week, and save myself some money and wait. Guess its all a bummer, but at least i will be in the woods. :D
I really appreciate the quick response. thank you

You could look at this as a positive :) ....get a new bow set-up right away and I'll bet you'll be shooting great by the opener. Having a bow feel comfortable right away is way overrated. Just buy what you want, and within a few days of shooting it will seem like old reliable.
Hope all goes well!
For a more moderatly priced Mathews the Classic will be just as fast AND forgiving as any of the new models and is a great hunting bow.
Good luck.....Heh, you might just be going into the season feeling the excitement of a new set-up.

when i say in stock i mean finished limbs. they are made at the factory in tucson. then they go to the paint booth then to graphics. then 4 days for shipping. the way dave made it sound they did have some in 80# that would need to go to painting then to graphics. but nothing made up in 60 or 70 pound.
as far as a lawsuit that is news to me. i have sold pse for more then 5 years and never had any trouble with the limbs on the carrera. over the years we have sold more then 100 of them and only had one set of limbs crack (mine). and that was because a friend of mine dry fired the bow. i actually took the bow to canada with the splinter in the bottom limb then replaced it when i got home.

If you like this bow wait the two weeks and then tune it and go hunting you will miss what a day or two of hunting which is usually the worst hunting of the season. It does suck because i had my bow have a problem which was freakish on the eve of the opener once. You really are ok at least it isn't late october of something Schupbachs in Jackson is the best I hear.

ChrisJan 81, If you're looking for help in finding a great setup, Lifford's Archery just west of Lansing is a great place to go. It's a small shop, but Mike Lifford is extremely knowledgeable, won't sell you a bill of goods, is honest and a really nice guy too. He has helped me out a ton and really knows his stuff!

Well i am going to wait it out. I dont know for sure how long it will take, but i have to at least think 3 weeks. I would love to get a new bow, but i can wait until next year. In the mean time, i have set up an old bow i had from 10 years ago. Its taken a half dozen bucks so i know it works, and i am grouping suprisingly well with it. if all goes well, i will be able to hunt the first week or so with this setup, then get my other one going and switch over.
But Thanks for the help... gosh though, the more i look at the AR31, the more i want it.

P.S.E is very slow i have one of there sights and ordered a glow in the dark ring for it 4 months ago still dont have the rep keeps telling me he has it . bottom line is I dont . pro-line has been very quick and good to me . this similar thing happened to me w/my riptide took it to them they gave me a new one no ? . I did have to drive a ways to get ,but it was worth every drop of gas 4 hrs worth . well good luck hopefully happy hunting :)

I got rid of my carrera and got the AR31 last year. It, the AR, is the nicest bow I have ever owned.
I don't know where you live, but if worse comes to worse, and your right handed I'll loan you my browning mirage. It's all ready to go. Shot it a couple weeks ago and it's right on. It's set for a 29"draw 65lbs. But if you wanted to change it I wouldn't care.
