Does anyone have information on Macatawa River fishing. I was thinking of doing a up river warm water species trip. I would be visiting Holland and thought it might be fun to take my fishing/canoe along. Any information would be helpful about fishing in river. I would not fish too much in Macatawa Lake with speed boats, etc. I just have a fishing/canoe so thought of river.
Thanks

The river is actually the Black river. I haven't heard of much fishing in it, I do think the walleyes run it in the spring. I think I remember a story about some guys getting caught spearing :yikes:

The river itself isn't all that big.

I would think boat traffic in Lake Mac has dropped WAY off.

I've been itching to get to know it, but my wife and I are due on Sunday.

I'm guessing my wife wouldn't be happy if I was out fishing when she has the baby  The fishing would have to be REALLY good!

Thanks for your reply IcePerch. I'm still laughing on the inside over your reply. Yes, as a father of 3 grown up children now, I can recall those early father days. I think it is a good idea to stick close to home. First baby?
Thanks for your reply though.
Have you ever fished the Kalamazoo River? My youngest child is in college on that side of state and I thought I would visit her and take her fishing. My daughter loves fishing too!!!
Thanks

I have fished the Kalamazoo once. A freind from work took me out walleye fishing for the very first time on the Kalamazoo.

I caught a nine pounder. Thats the last time he's taken me walleye fishing...

When we fished, we put in at a launch that is right next to where 196 crosses the river near Saugatuck. You can see the launch from the highway. We went upstream onl a little ways and drifted with crawlers.

Check some of the other posts about Smallmouth fishing closer to the city of Kalamazoo.

do a search for Kalamazoo.

Also, The west end of Lake Macatawa near the channel is getting talked about.

Thanks Icedperch! I will give the Kalamazoo a try this fall. Wow...a nine pound walleye! Congratulations on that and the expecting baby...maybe another nine pounder.

Have you ever caught some of those huge carp in area? I wish I knew how to catch those things. They are HUGE! Talk about fight for the fun of it.
Thanks
