Been a pretty qwick summer. The testing and training season has now past. Been running 3 of the shoirthairs at a moderate pace all summer. Been pouring it on since August and they are ready. The Setter pup has had plenty of Pigeons and Chuckers shot over her. She has had several weekends of wild bird contact and has been slowing down a bit and finding and pointing Grouse & Woodcock. With two hour sessions in the open fields 3 to 4 days a week and cool down periods of long water retrieves they are all in decent shape. They perform MUCH better going into the season hardend up a bit. They dont struggle to get out of their kennels in the mornin. Basic commands have more or less been reinstilled in the older dogs. The Setter pup has been a joy to train this summer. She is holding steady on the flush and backing solid at first sight (with STYLE). She shows the signs of a true pup with her retrieves though, she kinda plays with it on the way back. She is a hoot to watch. When she is done performing her lil act on the retrieve I turn and walk the other way and she zip's the bird to heel. I love workin with pups. I put a prize one NA on Taco(7 month old gsp) and a my lil lady friend put a prize two on her male same age.

While I am thinking of it. Turbo might be for sale. We are a small outfit and just dont have the room. Turbo is a tireless lil pup in the fields. He seeks birds with a strong desire. His strong desire for birds has created a pup with an intense point, that intensity has led to a very stylish point. He uses his nose well and is a bold lil pup. This topic will be disqust between the two of us when she gets home from Virgina. She is down looking at a stud dog. Turbo can be seen on our web site on the training page.

I like to take my dogs into the season in tip top shape. I feel I kinda own them that. Dont need a dog that is all tired out and plodding around infront of me after 30 minutes of hunting. Now it is time for me to hit a few Sporting Clay courses and get myself ready.

Have a fun and safe hunting season and dont forget, take a kid hunting...

Tom - Congrats on the NA prizes.

Been working with my beast too. I'm pretty confidant I have him steady to the flush, which was my goal this summer. Might not sound like much but I'm more of a marathon runner than a sprinter when it comes to training. Been running him or letting him swim every night since the begining of August. It definately shows. Not only with him but with myself too. I ain't nothin' pretty to look at but I know I can put the miles on too.

Gonna work him on some birds one last time this weekend, hopefully shoot up a box of clays and call it good until Wed.

Best of luck this season, I'll stay in touch and hopefully we can chase some birds this fall.

Steadiness to flush took us from here

Well, the anticipation of my pup's first hunting season is getting stronger by the day. He seems to have a good drive and on the preserve hunt earlier this year he seemed to have alot of good natural instincts. I still think that this year will be used to see what we need to work on over the winter and go from there (this is when I'll need all the advice I can get ;) ).

I will keep my expectations low because he is only 6 months old. As we speak, I'm sending my shock collar in for a waranteed repair, hopefully I'll have it back in a week or so, just in time to hunt that first weekend.

I think he looks like Harley's brother
