Fellow anglers, I fished St Clair for the first time last weekend. Quite an experience (mostly good). I have a couple questions re the public boat launches on LSC.... can anyone tell me the name of the launch ramp just North of Metro Beach, South of the Selfridge launch? I didn't catch the name as I pulled in and I would like to know the "unofficial" hours of operation there. I have both a Metro Parks sticker and a State Parks sticker. I thought it was part of the State Park system, no? Also, this is a naive/dumb question but are the ramps further North (New Balt., Fairhaven) any less busy? I have a 16 ft. Lund w/ 40 HP so I don't want/can't run all over the place and besides feel there's no need anyway. I just need some info on the access sites. Thanks fir the help, Jim.

I think you are asking about the Harley Ensign Memorial Ramp. This ramp is almost at the mouth of the Clinton River. This ramp is run by the DNR.
State and County Park passes do not apply at this ramp or other ramps which the DNR operates. There is a fee to launch at these ramps, but the DNR has had trouble getting people to want to work the booth, so many times there is no one to collect the fee.
I would bet though that the Lake St. Clair ramp will always have someone collecting the fee, as it is a very popular ramp to use. The DNR would not want to miss that amount of money.
Check with your local DNR office, at one time they published "Michigan Public Boat Launch Directory" which listed launch facilities from around the state.
There is another public ramp in New Baltimore at the Bradenburg Memorial Park, but it is also a DNR ramp and is very busy too.
I think the hours for entrance into the Ensign ramps are 5:00 AM till midnight, but you can pull out at anytime. There is also a ramp on M-29 west of Palms Road.

You can launch at Metro with a metro park sticker. DNR launches are at South river rd., Selfridge , Fairhaven on M-29 and Algonac on the North channel. Brandenburg is run by the Township of Chesterfield. South river rd is the largest with Selfridge being second along with Algonac. Fairhaven holds about forty or fifty cars. Also one on Anchor bay drive but only holds 20 cars. Don't know about south river rd. but Selfridge gets full by 11-12 pm.on Sat and Sun. Supposely a new DNR launch will open in August by the spillway. (south of Metro)
DNR launches all require thier own stickers $4 per day or $24 annual. Brandenburg I think charges $5 per day.
