Went fishing off Stoneport tonight from around 6:15 pm till 10:00 pm. caught 2 7 pound walleye, a 4 and a 3, and a big 81/2 pounder. The 3 bigger fish went back to breed, and I FINALLY have some walleye fillets in my freezer. New style of fishing for me, soaking sucker minnows under slip bobbers. but can't argue with success. All reports in this area say the walleye are stacked along the rocky shorelines in Lake Huron. Have to say, I agree with them. This wasn't as much fun as watching my offshore's bounce backwards under the weight of a nice walleye, but still fun, fun, fun.

Pusheeman,
Welcome to the M-S.com website! Good to see more eastsiders!
I'm coming up that way this weekend for a "work weekend" at the camp and the Potato Festival over in Posen. Our place is near US-23 & Warren Creek Hwy. Are you going back anytime soon? I'd like to try for some myself. Could you post or PM me a description of your rig up? Pole type/length, line weight, hook, slip bobber depth, minnow type & size. Oh, and by the way are you availble to "baby sit" me next weekend! :yikes:
Any word on Salmon outa PI harbor yet? Appriciate the report and information!
Again, Welcome to the sight & Tight lines! :fish:

Yes it is good to see a few more east sider's around here. Both my parents are from Alpena so I spent a fair share of time up there myself.

Went back to same spot bright and early this morning. Fishing Gods weren't quite as nice this morn, ZERO, ZILCH. Fish were there, we could see them swimming under the bobbers. Must be an evening bite only, as wind and waves were all the same. Darn, there goes my hopes for stardom!!!!
Burkee, I was fishing off private property at the Quarry shipping dock, sorry can't bring in guests. Heck, am lucky I could fish there, as touchy as management is, and I been a foreman for 19 years there!!
I was using 9 foot spinning rods with long cast spinning reels loaded with 12 lb line. Setting my slip bobbers between 15 and 20 ft., using small sucker minnows.drifting them back and forth across face of the dock area. There was a boat running offshore planer boards out trolling the area last night, they said they had one walleye, and couple of small salmon. There was quite a few boats in the area this morning, but out a little too far to see what they were getting. Sorry cannot tell you anymore about the salmon fishing then that, my guru I work with is out of town.
But will be back out there tonight unless the wind really blows, and looks like it might be heading that way.

Pusheeman, Thanks for info! I know the spot your talking about. Don't have access to it (yet!). We've "taxi'd" a few sailers from the Hide-A-Way back to there boats there. When you posted "Stoneport" I was thinking "Rockport" and was hoping you were talking about out at the public access and launch. I've salmon fished out there in the past and saw a guy hook a walleye in the little bay by the launch! Two years ago I ran into an older couple at the Parker House while having breakfast and they told me they fish PI harbor in the evenings for salmon, casting spoons and body baits. Was hoping to get out there this fall.

Actually , they have been getting them at Rockport off the breakwall too in the evenings, might want to give it a try!! Darn wind kept me off last night, and now am on afternoons this week. I might try after I get off work at Midnite, or maybe during work ???????
Leaving this Saturday for our annual Drummond island perch fishing, golfing, drinking, eating week. With as warm as the weather has been, not looking for much success at the perch fishing, but might just try for some walleyes up there.

Had to work this evening, so couldn't fish, but northwest wind was perfect. the Boss was there, and last time I checked his cooler, he had a 29 incher, big and fat, and a 25 incher. But what i couldn't believe was what he was using for bait. Nightcrawlers on a small harness, and a floating jighead with a crawler!! he did clue me into his depth, which told me I was fishing too high other night. Now my blood is pumping, so tomorrow night, barring storms, I will be out there with my buddy trying for some more hogs.
I just didn't believe walleyes that size would hit consistently in colder water on a measly crawler!! Figured the big blades flashing and thumping is what attracted them in saginaw bay, and the meat was the clincher. But in this case, the blades hardly are turning, the fish must be actually smelling and looking for the crawler. I will be testing it more thoroughly tomorrow night. But just in case, there are minnows still in the drop pail just waiting.

Pusheeman, Thanks for another interesting report. I'm still planning on making the trip north Friday A/N so hopefully I'll get a line wet Fri. PM at Rockport! You mentioned your boss was using a crawler harness and/or a floating jighead? Was he also using a bobber or ??? Thanks again, looking forward to your next report! :)

fished the last 2 nights after we got off work at Midnite. The fish definitely bite better just before dark and for an hour or so after dark. I had one on and lost it Wednesday night, and last night we had one bite. The "Boss" was out at 7:00 pm, left at 9:00, he had 4, 3 25" and a 29" hog. All were caught using crawlers, some on harness, some on a jighead, all using slip bobbers.
The maddening thing is, we watched a walleye both nites swim back and forth at the edge of the light the whole time we were there. I kept dropping a minnow in front of him, but he wouldn't eat it. Even when we dumped the dead minnows in front of him, he just looked and swam away, keeping up his patrol, back and forth, back and forth. Every so often, when watching the bobbers, you would see a flash of gold just under the surface as they swam up to grab a snack close to surface.
Oh well, off to Drummond saturday, good luck to all this weekend and next week, will report when I get back.

When you see eyes hanging that high in the water column, try different Rapalas with adjusted retrieves. Use Sinking ones and "flutter" your rod tip...A lot of times they will hit it as it sinks...Start with gold, then go to the vampire.....
With the floaters, twitch it on the surface and then rapidly reel, stopping from time to time. They will hit the bait as it floats to the surface...
Good luck!
