Time : 2:30 PM August 3rd
Where : U.P.
My father is walking out to tend the baits. He has a full pail of dinner for the bear. He approaches the bait and steps on a twig. Two cubs run out of the small pines 5 feet in front of him.
What do you do? You know Moma Bear is in the area.
He stands there like a statue. He know Moma Bear is standing at the bait not 15 yards from him. He sudenly hears a low deep moan and arround the pines she comes. She sees him and stops. She is 10 feet from him. Her cubs are running in the opposite direction. What will she do?
She stands on her hind legs. Starts snapping at him, grunting and groaning, all the hair on her body is standing straight, time stands still. What seems like an eternity passes, she comes no closer. She goes back to all four, stares at him some more, and then heads in the opposite direction after her cubs.
What would you do? Logic would tell you at this point to get the hell out of there. Well I don't have the smartest dad in the world! He decides well I have the bait I mine as well dump it in the hole. So he approaches the bait, and dumps the bucket into the hole.
So my first question is, probable like yours, WHERE WAS MOMA BEAR?? He tells me she was 30 yards away with the cubs standing in the swamp watching him! Crazy Man!
He has the trail camera hanging in the tree, but decides he better not press his luck and leaves it hanging...gee I think that was a good decision.
He does not carry a gun with him when he baits, he always figured he'd have time to get away! WRONG!!! You never know when your in harms way. I gave him my .357 pistol to carry. But he wont carry it. He says when his time is up, it's up! The Lord has a plan for all of us.
He survived a point blank confrontation with a 300+ black bear. Did he soil his pants? Did he wet himself? Did he run away? No he finished the job...Balls of Steel! My father is my hero! I would have soiled my pants for sure!
I thank God this wasn't his time to go. How could I have lived with myself losing my dad, doing me a favor. That would have been a heavy burden to carry!
I will post pictures of this bear once I get the cam pictures developed.
