I am looking to pick up a gun safe in the next couple weeks. Anyone know where I might find a good deal? I have looked at a couple local stores, Galions and Gander mountian, but the selection is relativly limited.
Looking to spend between $400 and $500.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

At what you are willing to spend you are probably going to end up with a security cabinet instead of a safe. My father in law has one of these and it is pretty nice.

I bought a Nowak at Meijer for about $180. Holds 12 guns plus room for ammo. I'd agree with the kidd, you probably won't get much of a gun safe for that amount or if you do it won't hold much. A good gun safe will probably cost you twice that much. Depends on what you want it for. I bought mine to keep the kids safe.

Thanks Guys, I figured that I would end up with a cabinet rather than a safe, but i wasnt completly sure. I guess I have to figure out what I really want/need before making a decision. But thats the hard part....do i buy what I need or what i want?? Do I save the money from the safe and get me a new Rifle?
Decisions.....

Trust me, get a safe and NOT a cabinet. Not even those cheap Stack-On "safes". All they need is a good crowbar to get them open. My hunting buddy had one a few years back and somebody broke into it and stole all his guns, stuff you can not replace including his father's Colt 1911.
I have a Cannon safe. Ya get what ya pay for and a safe is no exception to the rule.

Bolt it to the floor and your golden! The only downfall is that it isn't fireproof. Consider doubling or even tripling the price if you want to get into a fireproof safe. Most fireproof safes are fireproof for 1 hour or less.:(

Check out the Redhead Ranger 12/24 gun fire safe (http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=55569&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults). I don't know about you, but I'd consider even a half hour pretty good fire protection. Unless you're a long ways from the fire station, I wouldn't plan on the house being on fire longer than that. It's not like everything inside is instantly trashed a couple minutes past the rated time, either.
I'd say if your going to spend $500 to get a cabinet, might as well spend $850 and get something you'll be happy with. Remember, there are a lot of other things that are better off stored in a fire safe, too. Good luck with your search!

I went to Bass Pro tonight, and they have two Redhead fire safes on sale. One holds 11/22 guns with convertible interior for $500, and another which I think is exactly the one I listed above, except it has keypad code entry, 12/24 gun with convertible interior for $600.
Good luck,
Byron
