Does anyone know of a cut proof cable/lock combo that someone sells. Or is There such a product out on the market?

There have been some stands being stolen lately on the public property that I hunt on. I need something better than a bike cable and a masterlock..

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jay

I had a ladder stand stolen about ten years ago, It had one inch logging chain with a solid steel covered shackel lock that weighed about 2 pounds. A 12 gauge slug made mincemeat out of the lock. Lesson" there are no theft proof tree stands. If you put one up on public land it's a good bet it will be gone.

Harrisonhunter, i can only say goodluck on the lock thing. I thought mine was secure only to find that they stood on my stand only to cut the tree with a chainsaw and lifted the stand right off the tree. But they did have the curtousy to leave my climbing sticks. So the moral of the story goes if they want it bad enough they probably will get it.

I hunt with a climber on private property and what I do is take brush that I have gathered and cover up the stand as best as I can. This is an old stand that is a beast to carry in and out. I also have a Summit climber and I pack my summit out when I leave so if someone comes along and wants my hunting spot, they can have it but they can't have my stand. I had 2 2001Honda CBR 600 motorcycles with less than 15 miles stolen when I lived near Ann Arbor, and I learned that if you want to keep something, don't leave it available for the public to access.

I don't think there is going to a locking device that will keep theives from stealing your stand, if they want it bad enough, like someone else mentioned, they will cut the tree down if they have to. All you can do is try to make stealing it that more difficult. Add larger chain(s) and lock(s), the largest one's you can find and hope that they aren't carrying a chainsaw or 12 guage.

This is just one of those unfortunant facts about hunting that I try to spend the offseason forgetting about when I think about how much I can't wait until next years hunting season.

It doesn't really matter what kind of lock you use.....If the thieves want your stand they will get it......My hunting buddy last year went out opening day to discover someone cut down his tree to get his stand......( state land) .

Any stand that you can't easily remove and carry out isn't worth buying. Honestly spend the extra few bucks on ONE stand and carry it out everyday. That or use a climber.

If you need suggestions on a good comfortable and safe portable stand look HERE (http://www.chippewawedgeloc.com/).

I have had 3 portable lock on stands stolen over the years . All were locked to the tree with the treesteps removed . They actually cut the tree down to get one stand .
I use a lightweight climber now ,and don't worry about the theives .http://michigan-sportsman.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

dont matter what you use. with todays battery powered skill saws and a cutoff wheel or a sawzall nothing is theft proof. if they want it there going to get it.

I'd have to agree with everyone else, nothing is fool proof. Thieves don't veer towards honesty just because you put hurdles in their way.

I was just asking if anyone knew or heard of some new product out on the market that is stronger than the standard cable or chain.

I have a climber and I understand the risk of leaving a stand out on public land.

I guess I'm searching for a product that is not made

My brother had stands that were stolen where the cable and lock are still in the tree. They had to have cut the stand instead of the cable. Just weld it up and they are ready to go.
