I have fished it before also. It is a great lake to take a child fishing. The size and the quantity of panfish will make any child gleam.
Between the four of us adults we brought home 700 filleted blue gills in 2000. Caught some nice large mouth bass and crappies, seen some decent walleye caught also.
They advertise it as the most prolific lake in North America, it may be. I was told they don't allow icefishing on the lake.

Try this web site. It has excellent information about the lake and the area. http://www.ricelakecanada.com/ I stay at a place on the Ontonabe River about a 1/2 mile from the mouth into the lake. Their web site is http://www.rainbowcottagesresort.com/ excellent people, nice cabins and reasonable rates.
This is an excellent fishing lake. In addition to the above information there is some good muskie fishing there as well.

Kingfisher, that is a LOT of panfish! How long were you there?

We were there for three days. I normally don't like catching so many small fish and cleanng them. It was a great time and I would do it again.
Good thing my buddies had a automatic fish scaler and could fillet them very fast.

Sorry about the late reply. We had a great time caught alot of fish. We ended up bringing home 850 filets mainly panfish. Did have one day where all we caught was perch and good sized ones. The gills were from 7 to 10 inches, don't get me wrong we also caught alot of little ones that went back in the lake. The last day we were there my boys and I went out for 2 hrs. and 15 minutes (thats dock to dock) we put 97 bid gills in the livewell. I will be going back next year reservations are already made.
Didint mean to babble here is the correct web site

Rice Lake is easily the best lake I have ever fished. I was there the second week in May this year. Hammered the gills..... and the perch.... and the walleyes...... and the smallmouth bass.... Even a blind man could catch fish on that lake! It will be a yearly destination for as long as I am able.
Rice Lake sounds great! One question though, Do you have to leave a patch of skin on the bluegill fillets for identification purposes? I know you do if it's a walleye, pike, bass etc.

Yes, you need to leave some skin on for identification.

Thanks for that tip guys. About how big does the patch need to be?

It needs to be 1" x 1' patch. Most of the anglers including my self scalled all of the fiha and left all of the skin on them. It was alot less work, believe me one you are fileting 100 to 150 fish a day.

Flydunker you are right about fileting over a 100 a day! Spend 4 hrs fishing spend 6 fileting!! Caught lots of fish and had a great time. I would recomend it to anyone thinking of going.
