Do you guys worry about hunting with rifles that have a glossy finish? I just bought a new BLR and like most Brownings it has been polished to a shine. Do you think that this has much effect while hunting or is it negligible?

I am guessing the affects of a shinny barrel on game is not scientifically documented. It was probably an issue for one hunter at some time or another. But then again I have never herd a story of the deer that got away because of the finish on the gun barrel. Others may have herd of these stories though.
However, I have done research on barrel finishes. Apparently the finer the (blue/black) finish the more the barrel will shine or appear glossy. Unfortunately these types of finish require a little more care and wear off much easier when out in the field.
I know some people can keep any barrel looking new. I am not one of them. My gun has the matte finish. Although I properly maintain my rifle it still gets a work out in the field. I am as agile as a drunk walrus. So know you know why the finish I choose is matte.

Are you talking a glossy looking barrel, action or stock? I don't think the amount of shine on a stock or barrel makes a bit of difference. I can't really say it produces enough glare at any distance to be noticeable. So in short, I'd buy what looks good to you.
I personally can't handle the looks of glossy stocks. Give me a oiled finish or a plastic stock any day!
I don't even buy wood stocked guns anymore except to take to Africa(nostalgia I guess), and even then I bring a plastic stocked stainless with me as back up since they are pretty much indestructable. The synthetic in this picture was made by HS precision and the stainless action and barrel are matte teflon coated.

i will put it on and take a pic and post it
