A few of us are planning to drive up to the Porkies, hike towards the Superior shore, set up camp and fish for 4-5 days early this fall. We originally planned first weekend of October, but now may have to move that back to the weekend of October 8-10.

Does anyone know how the runs are this time of year? Are the salmon green and dead? Any steelies? I assume the trout take a back seat to the salmon run....

Also, should I even bring the fly gear or just go with the noodle rod?

I've made several trips up that way over the first 2 weeks of october to try a "cast and blast" trip for salmon and grouse and it's always turned into pretty much a "blast" trip. Seems like we were always on the late side of the salmon run, there were some to be found but you really had to work to find them.
