I am headed next year to Reindeer Lake in Northern Saskatchewan, in search of Monster Pike. I was considering either an Albright Tempest, or a St. Croix Legend 9wt reel. Anyone ever used either of these reels? Or know of another good reel in this price range?

i havent personally fished with those reels you mentioned, but in that same price range are teton, tioga, ross, and lamson reels. All are great reels for 150-250 dollars. My tioga 10LA is my go to reel for salmon and i also use it on my spey rod and it has performed flawlessly for the 2 years i have had it and it was 150 dollars.
I haven't fished with the Legend, but have looked at them a number of times, they feel like a very good reel for the money, with a drag that is smooth enough for steel and salmon.

I agree with Gomer. I have a Tioga 10LA that I have used exclusively for salmon for the last 3 years. It has performed flawlessly for me as well. I have recommended more than one of these for the price range you are indicating. I have also used a Harris Solitude IV and have been pleased with the performance with this reel as well.
