last night i attended a town hall meeting in farmington hills with the new D.E.Q. director, Steve Chester, concerning the Water Legacy Act. This is a very importany piece of legeslation concerning all sportsman. The guts of the bill allows a permitting prosess whereby the D.E.Q. would monitor and regulate all large withdrawls of water in our state. The end goal is to prevent large companies from claiming that water is a commodity (like they did with trash) and exportation would be prevented. It is not a perfect bill ,but may be our only shot of preventing long term degradation to our water supply. This bill is 20 years in the making ,but is still being held up in the legislature by the house majority for reasons unknown to myself. It is a shame that party lines would prevent the passage of such a common sense measure. Please check into this act and keep this forum going whether you are on either side of the issue. just the knowledge you pass on would be valuable to every member of the great lakes area. thanks again Dan Chad :grouphug:

DT,

I'll take a guess at this and conjecture that the reason it's being held up in the Legislature is because of some powerful lobbying going on from Nestle's lawyers.....they have a good deal at stake in this. What Committe is it in and who is the chair? You're right, though, it is a serious issue for all of us ...the Nestle/Ice Mountain case in Cadillac proved that.
