Could not buy a bite in tight today. Radio chatter indicated a very slow day indeed. I changed the spread several times working 80-120 fow. Finally headed west, trolled on a nw/w heading with the only marks in the upper 40 fow, out to 250 fow. Changed the spread again, moving the riggers up to 35 and 40, shortening the dipsys to 50-65 back and running a 1/2 core and a weighted long line. Ended up 3/6, small king, 4 lb. coho and 7lb. steelie. My partner had a rough day, farming 3 fish, 2 of them very nice, just plain bad luck as I couldn't see anything he did wrong fighting the fish. 1/2 core off the board with goldie hawn and then a greasy chicken wing went 2/3, fireline dipsy (firetiger) back 75 on 3 with orange crush went 1/2, rigger down 40 with mag blue dolphin took the steelie and the other rigger free slider (halloween) over a blue bubble spindoctor/fly went 0/1. All fish came between 180 and 220 fow. When I put the steelie in the livewell, either the small king or the coho had lost its lunch, there were 7 small minnows floating around in there. The minnows were very small, 1/2" to 1" , I took a pic, will post tomorrow. Talked to Pete and Repete out there, sounded like they had a fish or 2.
Nice work!
We fished 6pm-10pm or so, and ended 1/1. Picked up a 5lb coho 90 down in ~120fow. We worked in the 80-140 range, and ended up pretty far south by the end of the night. Just as we started pulling lines and it was getting a bit dark, we started marking fish like crazy. Most everything was in the 80-100fow area. Weve been marking fish in the top 40fow for the last couple trips, but havent had any luck getting any takers out of them.
With more rain and wind on the way, im sure theyll get spread out even more this week. :dizzy:
It was nice talking to you out there on the radio. We actually ended up going 7 for 7 with 4 or 5 other knockoffs where noboby was home. Ended up with 5 kings (15, 10, 10, 6, 3) and a couple of nice chunky cohos of 6 lbs. each. We marked a small school of baitfish in 85 FOW with a few hooks around it and worked the area pretty good. Later on we got out to 130 FOW but no takers out there. Caught most of our fish in 80-100 FOW. There is definitely alot of warm water out there right now (63-67 top to bottom)... and most of these were warm water fish. Let's see if I can remember what took fish....
Meat rig 85' back on the wire dipsy (1.5) took 2 kings.
Dark blue and purple mag NK on 40 down rigger took 1 king.
Blue spinny/blue bubble fly 190' on lb. drop took 1 king.
White spinny/little boy blue fly 175' back on high diver (3.5 - mono) took 1 king.
Yellow tail NK lite on free slider on 60' down rigger took 1 coho.
Stinger monkey shine on free slider on 75' down rigger took 1 coho.
By most accounts of what I heard... we had a good day out there. DNR "fish count dude" at the launch reported alot of "white kittys" and 1's and 2's with a 5 the next best catch after ours.
Sorry I did not get back to you on the radio as the new one I installed on Friday was acting up (going to return it today and get another).
On a side note... kinda funny how things work out... I talked to Ben (LEPRECHAUN) at the launch... then out on the lake before my radio starting acting up. Later on in the morning I 2-wayed Spanky on the Nextel to get Ben's 2-way number and talked to him that way. Well.... we both headed for the barn about the same time since it slowed down... and wouldn't you know it... got a 2-way from Ben saying that he was dead in the water in 30 FOW straight out from the piers. Needless to say... had them throw us a line and towed them back to the launch.
Oops... forgot that one.... that made us 8 for 8 on the day!!!
