I've been experimenting with cutbait over the last few years. I've used the frozen precision cut herring strips, squid strips, salmon belly meat, and whole alweifes from fishes bellies. Those are all messy, stinky, hard to store and re-use. Is there a scented artificial "plastic" strip on the market? I just sent Berkley an e-mail requesting this product for Great Lakes fishermen. Throw a bag or two of your favorite colors, and they are ready when you need them. What do you think?

Any word back from Berkley yet Tim???? This stuff is killer for bluegill in Canada! I'd be VERY interested if they have a preformed alewife or herring strip. PLEASE let me know if they reply to you! :chillin:

There actually is a very similar product to the one that you are requesting. Although, they are primarily for use in salt water. They are called fish bites. I have used them in NC before, and they are great. Saves time, and the mess of cutbait. I do not see why they would not work in freshwater. Here is the site.

If someone decides to give them a try, let me know how they work.

Looks like some cool stuff M-M. I'll take a closer look at it.

My response from Berkley:

Tim, Great to hear the Gulp is working for you. I will pass your suggestion onto our PI team.

I've been eyeballing some large old plastics I have laying around as well. Cut them to size and always have a couple in my box ready to go.

What about using the "hairy" side of strip of Velcro that has adhesive backing, stick it to a spoon/attractor & then spread a jellied fish scent product on the Velcro hair?

I think I saw in a fishing magazine a commercial/retail product that already exists which incorporates the same type of scent delivery.

that is a fairly new bait, designed for the salt, but now is freshwater use. www.baitbuster.com made it's debut on Lake ON. you are supposed to use it with the Pro Cure scents, that are designed for the bait-buster lure.

What a great idea! I just picked up somw velcro sheets for a leader holder I'm making. I'll cut some up, color them, scent them, and give them a try. I'll post some pictures of what I come up with.

Timmy,

A while back while I was looking through a catalog of sorts. it was either a cabelas, bass pro or the bass pro offshore angler catalog. But they were marketing some "fake" herring type strips.

They appeared from the picture to be much like the Uncle Josh Pork baits the bass guys use but in a shape of a little fish fillet.

might be worth a looksee...I suppose you could soke them in your favorite fishy flavor...or get some of that Smelly Jelly Sticky Liquid and load it up on the pork bait and go for it.

Good luck in your search.

Like Sixshooter said go to unclejosh.com You might be able to find something close to what your looking for. I use these for bass fishing and they are very durable baits, they will last a long time, and great for holding scent. Good luck.

Those look good TD, but at $5 a pop I'll use the real thing.

Uncle Josh has some Bonita strips made of pork rind that look promising.

The velcro idea is going good. I cut some strips to size and will use them with the Twinkie rig, and herring oil scent.

Lots of great ideas to try if the fishing ever gets slow.
