I had a few new visitors to my birdfeeder today. 1 hen with at least a 6 inch beard, and 8 of her poults. There's no doubt that it's a hen.
My question is, how rare is this?

I have seen quite a few bearded hens over the years. There seems to be more showing up the last few years. I have no Idea why there seems to be more of the but there sure is. I almost hit a bearded hen a couple of weeks ago. It had about a 7 inch beard.
I just got my CBM Buck Fax 2003 special edition with the new entries to the book. I shot three multiple bearded turkeys in Delta county in 89 and 90. [No I didn't violate. Spring and fall toms in 90] At that time I had no idea the toms could have multiple beards. In 2003 there were 65 multiple bearded toms entered in the book.
Who can tell why the increase in odd turkeys over the years. I think that multible beards is a gentic thing as all three of mine came from the same farm.

I shot a bearded hen near Gaylord in Fall of 2001 (I think). I had never seen one before and thought it was very cool. Not much of a beard though, maybe 6 inches long and pretty thin.

Have seen stubs on hens. Hey, was out back the other day and seen a white young turkey following it's mom and family. This is the second time I've seen a white turkey or almost all white. Is it natural or did a tame do the nasty with a wild bird?

I killed a hen with a 7 in. beard 8 years ago in Atlanta. It wieghed 12 pounds . When I lived in Mayville a few years back, we had two white turkey hens with at least 4 in. beards. Out of a flock of 40 I thought it was odd.
