well wild bill and i made a joint purchase on a cheap boat to get out on the big water every now and then for some salmon and such. we picked up a 1975 18.5' galaxy I/O with a 120 hp mercruiser. it will be a winter project for us to bring it up to snuff. i hope to keep all of you informed with pics and such throughout the process to see how it comes along. i think it will be well worth it and i plan to keep tabs on every penny spent to see where we end up at in our grand total. here is the boat:

so far we have gutted the interior and are preparing to pull the motor to fix the rotted transom. this will be quite an adventure most people see some rotted wood and run but i think it will be worth it in the end. the 'glass is in great shape and the floor is solid as a rock. we already saved 200 bucks on a new power trim motor as we located two blown o-rings as the leak. we still need a prop. and need some skeg work done

nice project! what was the starting price? my neighbor did a similar project this summer and has a total of $2000 tied up in his 18.5' reinell. nickels and dimes... :p oh his boat started at $500 with 4 riggers, boards and reels and 4 rigger rods. good luck and keep us posted. i would be interested in a 18' to 24' aluminum hull with an outboard. no glass for me though. good luck! :)

That's pretty cool. Please keep us updated because I always enjoy reading report of boats being restored. I would like to do that when I get out of college.

ok made some good progress today we pulled the motor and removed the rotted transom here are a few pics:
here is the boat with outdrive and motor out there seems to be a few leaks that caused the rot where the outdrive mates leaked the transducer and something that was removed and filled with bondo to seal

the rotted transom :o the floor and stringers seem to be in great shape maybe the last foot of stringer before it hits the transom needs to be replaced but thats it really

wild bill chippong away on the transom maybe took 45 mins to remove it all it was real bad shape most of it was garden mulch and the rot was all the way across

this is it one clean transom ready for some nice new lumber we still have a little sanding and grinding to get a real good area of adhesion for they new wood, looks like 2 3/4" pieces of plywood laminated with mat and resin should do the trick

hey ozzgood,

I have a prop for a 120 mercruiser give me a shout if interrested, make an offer. I am parting out a 120 mercruiser that had a cracked block. All other parts on it are good, so let me know if you need anything we can work on the price for anything you may need. I also have a lot of misc parts that you may have use for. Good luck with the project.
