Merc. 9.9 question

I just purchased a 9.9 merc. from someone from this site! They did not know the age but said it was around 4-5 yrs old and only a couple of hrs. on it....it is painted camo...cleaned all the camo paint off but there is no ID # or age stamped anywhere...I can tell you it has a red togle switch for Run or Off a round choke or primer knob to adjust the idle at the front of engine...would like to find out what year it is and get a shop manual and owners manual for it!! Any suggestions of a website or place to go to find out age of engine

Kinda sounds like mine. Mine is a 2000 model. Mine is a four stroke BTW.

this one is the 2 stroke 9.9...looked for any markings anywhere ..so far I have not seen any...I have cleaned about 3/4's of the camo paint off and nothing??

after it is all cleaned up and waxed up would like to get some Mercury stickers to put on it to make it look as original as possible!..so far it is cleaning up good using Goof Off!

the ID tag on a merc is normally found on the motor mounting bracket on the left side of the motor,,
so go to the left side of the motor and look at the motor mount from the back side of where it rests against the transom. you are looking for a small metal tag held on with 2 rivets.
If for some reason you cannot find the tag pull your motor cover off and look for(the welch plug) a round plug in the engine case itself,,,looks kind of like a freeze plug with numbers stamped in it.
We should be able to ID her with those numbers

well I am having trouble getting to my good file of merc numbers to run,,,it seems every time I try to run the file my Acrobat Reader crashes,,,,I did look at some old info I had on paper and the closest I could come was 1992-1993 but I was missing a number,,,so before I go and send you off to buy a manual or stickers that might not be correct for your motor lets just make sure we get her nailed down....
if you would be so kind as to check that number again,,or if you had a pick to post it would be great..
I will also be going by my buddy bills a little later today and will run the numbers on his stuff......

I went out with a magnifying glass to make sure and those were the correct numbers on the welch plug...D134194...They were the correct numbers, hope this helps to find out the year!! Thanks Tonga!!

I had Bill check his info and she came back as a 1992 .
I need to do a little more poking around for stickers but I have to rush out and go fishing,,,so I will post some info for you a little later
