Anyone know if and where you can get parts for a Sea King outboard? I have a chance to buy one that looks like new and has been sitting for quite a while. He wants $60.00 for it and it runs on 1 cylinder now (I'm sure it's a simple fix to get it to run on both) but in the event I need parts down the road I'd like to know if I can get them.
Thanks for any help.

Sea King, I believe they were built for Monkey Wards by Chrysler. I still see a few around and I'm sure thru the magic of the internet parts are still pretty much available.
Should you decide to pass please shoot me PM, I'm still looking for a small inexpensive motor and am not apposed to getting my hands dirty to fix one! ;)

Garden Bay,
I would probably be able to tell you where I got parts, but someone stole my 6hp Sea King about 2 years ago! If all the decals on one side are neatly peeled off, it just might be mine! :yikes:
FWIW, it was a good motor the one summer I had it.
Best Regards,
Byron
BTW, if a 3 year old Mercury 2.5hp is also for sale, I'd like to know. That disappeared at the same time.

I had one recently which was sold to a fellow member of this site (Hey Moe). Itwas a 3 1/2 HP and an old motor guru up here told me they were made by Gale Mfg and he had "no problem" getting parts. Many are interchangeable w/ Johnson/Evinrudes I'm told. That little mill ran great after a tune up. Good luck.

The older Sea Kings were indeed made by Gale a division of OMC and yes they are just like a Evy or Johny, and share parts,,later on in the 60's Chrysler picked up the manufacture of them the later motors are pretty much a dead ringer for a Chrysler and share parts with them.
Do you have a pic of the little motor?
or how about the model number off the little metal tag so we can find out just what you have?

My sources (*found them on the web) at Nick's Marine informed me that by the information you gave that it is a 1966 model, manufacutured by Chrysler Marine. If you need anything you can contact Nick or Elaine at:

GB, In your last post you mentioned "getting out on the water and using it". Did you figure out why it was only hitting on one cylinder? Another good choice that was already mentioned for parts and information is "Van's" in Grand Rapids, I can find there number right now and I'm pretty sure they dont have a web-site (yet!) but its a little more "local" than Nick's.

Planning on working on it tonight....it has to be simple to fix, fires on one cylinder not the other. I'm hoping a bad wire or loose connection under the flywheel. My dad (78) came over today to get something of his fixed, looked at it and said "ya know...I wouldn't mind going fishing if you got some time" kinda motivates a guy when his dad wants to go fishing. So I'm hoping for a simple fix and take dad fishing this weekend. (He loves gills) Thanks for the advice too!

Steve, look at the plugs, then wires, then points, then coil gap, then coil resistance. I'm sure you know this but it's on here for others' now.
Is it one carb or two?

Just 1...., maybe I need a 750 dual feed double pumper Holley?:D Just kidding.

Supercharger!
I assume no spark on one plug? Then I'd do as I said.
Before I ran it, I'd pour some Marvells' or Seafoam in it to free the rings. pre-lube it and help clean the carbon.

I got a 55 Wizard of Scarlet's running last spring, you wouldn't believe the carbon build up in that thing. Another way to de-carb is to use a spray bottle with tap water. Once you get it running, spray into the carb enough to bog the engine but not stall it. The older 2 cycle oils caused lots of carbon and ash.

I once owned a 1973 7.5 HP Wards Sea King with a Clinton engine. It started about half the time. I gave it to a friend who thought I was nuts for giving up such a "good" motor, and he swore he had it running like a watch. About a year later I found out he deposited it on the bottom of a private lake near his home in a fit of anger when it resumed its former bad habit. :D
