I will be fishing Wixom this week in a little contest between friends. I have never been there before. I am going to Jays to see if they have the HotSpots map. We fish for walleye, pike, and especially bass. Is this a smallmouth or Largemouth fishery? Are fish usually shallow in cover or deeper? Are there many walleyes? I plan on staying near the dam end. Any advice would be appreciated.

We fished Sanford Lake last week. Most fish were hooked in siight of the US10 overpass. One guy had a couple nice 'eyes trolling a harness. Someone hooked a 24" catfish on a floating rapala!

My brother-in-law lives on Sanford lake. Last August we caught a couple of wally's in the river channel in the north end of the lake. Done by 10 took a couple of smallmouth under the bridge. Also we catch cats right from his dock using small suckers or shiners. Will be going back again this August.

Try some top water first thing in the morning, as morning burns on switch to a tube and slow down. If you want walleye's try pontoon on the lake side with some jigs and leaches. You should have no problem finding a few of them. And for the pike try the biggest spinner bait in your box if you have any. Try muddy bay if its not too weeded up. Hope this helps, i know that fishing hotspots has a nice map of the lake.

Goodluck and tightlines.

Thanks Grizzly. Was not able to get your post till after I fished. A couple guys got a couple bass, me and my partner got no keepers. Its tough in 3 hours on your fisrt time on such a big lake. Some were take real shallow but were the 14" variety, bigger bass were taken on dropoffs where 5 foot went down to 30 feet on spinnerbait. One guy got a 30" pike on a spiinerbait. Overall I'm impressed with the lake. There was a lot of boat traffic though.
