View Full Version : Hoyt ultramag
Been thinking about getting one of the new high let off bows. Was shooting a friends the other day, and I really liked it. My old bows are getting to be to much effort. I didn't realize it till I shot a 75% let off compound. Shooting should be fun, not work right? Thats what I'm thinking anyways.
So anyway, I've been looking at the new line of hoyts. I kind of like that ultramag. Does anyone else have any experiance shooting them? Or any other recamendations?
Thanks for any input.

What are you shooting now? What do like best about the bow you have now? Least? What do you like best about your buddy's bow?

Just bought the new outback and i love it so smooth!
But i have also shot a hoyt and they are not a bad bow either. But for the same price i would go with the outback.

The Ultramag is, in my humble opinion one of the best deals going. For a mid priced or even value priced bow it is tough to beat. It will feel as good or better than most $600-$700 bows. Another similar model is the Reflex (hoyt) Grizzly....last years Hoyt Magnatec. This bow can be found for well under $300. I used to have a Magnatec before I bought my UltraTec and was very happy with it.
But, and it's a big but, Bows are very subjective and what feels good to me may feel lousy to you. Shoot a bunch of different models from all priced points and find which model is right for you.
The Hoyt Ultramag has the same limbs and cam and a half system as there higher end bows. The major difference that I was told at my local bow shop was that the Ultramag has a cast riser while the higher end hoyt bows have a machined riser. I've been shooting my Ultramag for about 3 weeks now with a big smile and no complaints. Put some limbsavers and string leeches on it and it will feel like a $800 bow.

Erik, on www.archerytalk.com there is an ultramag forsale pretty cheap....I'll post a link....
Here it is, fully set up with a dozen Carbon Express for $400 or $450. The guy started at $600. This is a pretty good deal. It's also a good site to find newer bows at good prices.......40-50 new bows a day added to that forum...

I see mr trushot is holding out on us......he's got more bows than he is willing to admit!!!! :D If I weren't buying property, I'd buy that Vipertec from him!
His poor wife....I hope she makes enough $$ to support them both and his addiction!!!! :D

Yeah....I have toys. I need to sell some though. The Vipertec is sold as of today and the PSE Supra got traded...I still have 2 Martin Cougars though if anyone is interestesd :D
I'll have to sleep with one eye open if I get anymore without selling some :D
And NO I did not say "I'll have to sleep with ONE_EYE" either ya sicko  :yikes: :D
Thanks for the tips. I'm glad I didn't buy one yet. I almost caved in and bought the ultratek today. That 700$ price tag made me think twice.
I'll check out that archerytalk site, but I'd really rather stick to my local shop. Even if it does cost me a little more. They take good care of me.
