I have an older Starcraft 14' boat with the bench style seats. I would like to put wooden seats on top of the bench. I am thingking about using 3/4" plywood and either painting it or sealing it with some type of varnish. Any suggestions?

If I read your post correctly your going to cover the aluminum bench seat with wood. The only thing I can think of would be to put a lip on the wooden seat, a piece of trim style/type board. This will help hold your boat cushions from slipping off. Another issue to consider, what ever you paint/stain/seal your seats with my cause a "sticking to" concern on a hot summer day. You may consider covering the wood with a cloth or vinyl instead of "painting" them before you mount them to the boat.

Burksee - I'm thinking of something like the Perma Ply seats on some of the Lund boats. I like the natural wood look. Then, I will mount a seat base and put on a padded boat seat with a short pedastel.
