Finally got to fish erie this past weekend....
Got down to late to fish on Sat after screwing around for 4 hours trying to get the motor and trailer put back together only to find out I have a fuel delivery problem on my merc. (I think it was trying to tell us something) Decided to throw the fishfinder on my buddys boat and hit the road. Made it about 15 miles down the road and we get a flat on the trailer...Gonna be one of those days....
We had the kids (4 and 6 yo) with us, so we made it to the lauch at the prime time of 9am on Sun and headed out to 21' SE of the point. Set up a pair of bouncers and some tots off of the boards, and some spoons off of the riggers. Trolled for the next 3 hrs out to 26' and then N....2 under sized eyes and some sheep to show for it. Tryed switching it up, but no luck.. By now the kids were pretty bored with the whole trolling thing, so we ran up to 16' up by fermi and caught about 100 silvers, 15 sheeps and 4 perch drifting harnesses, spreaders and carolina rigs. Kept the kids busy, which was more important at that point than finding the eyes. Stopped by the cleaning station and talked to 2 guys that pulled a limit in 16 to 18 FOW E of the point with purple being the hot color.
Started out on monday in 17' S of the point and started tolling over the 16' to 19' range on a N troll... After 3 more hours of trolling, we had 2 in the box. 1 on meat and 1 on a slv/blu tot. Ran back to SE of the point and managed to set up on some perch to save face... Put about 20 in the cooler, most 7 to 9". Silvers and sheephead were ever present... I think that we burned up about 200 crawlers. Talked to a guy at the launch when we were coming in that had gotten a limit in 25' NE of the point...Go figure.
I guess that if you can still find them, you'll do all right if you work them over...I think that most of the fish are scattered and headed to the deeper water right now..water temps were in the low 70's. Weeds weren't that big of a problem. Visability was good. Felt nice to be out on the water!!
