The St. Marys river is hard to beat. Think about the Canadian side for something different.
how fishable is that from shore? or wading

i know of quite a few lakes in the up with some huge brookies, finding the lakes and then getting them to bite is a whole other story.

FISH,
You need to be more specific. The "UP" is a big place. For starters, what part of the UP are you going to? You say rivers/streams, but large ones, small ones, fly fishing or bait dunking? Do you want brookies, browns, Rainbows or lakers? And what size fish....small brookies, or trophies? You need to narrow it down. I can give you some tips on the central UP area, but I prefer working the small brushy out of the way spots, and I don't fly fish. I love catching brookies, but I rarely get a 15" fish.

i almost got smoked by a wood duck wading down the middle of the iron a few years back, probably missed me by a foot.
