:fish: Has anyone ever fished the Lake in Stoney Creek Metro Park? I've heard that its a good Walleye lake in spots? If any of you have experience there or tactics I'd love the help. Thinking of going over there and trying my luck! By the way this is my first post and I do belive I'm going to love this site :yikes:
Thanks, Greg
Stony is a tough nut to crack, but there are fish there. If only the fish were as prevalant as the weeds.

Stoney creek is a great lake I think. Have not fished it yet this year though but in the past never came home skunked. I've herd that you can catch some pretty nice sized walleyes there but lots of catfish. Great crappie fishing. ;)

I fish it once a week or so during the summer. Like ESOX said it can be tough. Try trolling or drifting bottom bouncers and harnesses for walleye. Hot-n-tots work good to if the weeds are not too bad. Speaking of which, they are still in the process of clearing them out. This will make some of the key areas fishable again. Lots of cats for me latley. Don't know if you have a boat or not but there is a rental area there also. A good area to try is straight out from the rental in front of the life guard tower. Good luck!!!

I was wondering if the lake "Stoney Creek" has a horse power limit.

No horsepower limit, just 10 mph limit. and they do enforce that one.
No HP limit, there is a 10 mile and hour speed limit.

Try a PM to Walleye Mike , he lives right around the corner from stoney and I believe that he might be a good source of info. I also live nearby but do not fish the lake so I cannot be of any help. Walleye Mike is an awfully knowledgeble
fisherman and I would bet he knows this lake well.

Galdius, Stoney is similar To Kent( both managed by huron-clinton metro authority). Every netting survey i've read says both places have ample amount of fish and genuinely respectable sizes for inland waters. The action at both places is not usually 'fast', but then again i think a lot of guys get spoiled with St. Clair lake and river, detroit river and Erie so near! Eyes, inland, anywhere this year have been tough to limit on(keeper size).

:fish: :fish: Thanks all for all the information. I can spend hours just looking and searching in the posts. Only problem is that the wifey don't like the idea that when I'm not fish'n I have my nose stuck in my computer as she says! :yikes:
Thanks again guys, Greg

I was there Monday evening and got a nice walleye, 20 1/2" and it was 3 lbs. I was trolling my favorite crankbait and also caught a 12" catfish, boy was I suprised to catch it on a crankbait. As I was on my way in a nice pike about 24" hit and threw the lure right at the boat. All in all it was a nice evening on the water.
I fish stoney creek from shore in spring when season opens there are several good places to fish you have to do a little walking but you can catch a limit, my preference for fishing there are the 3 inch rainbow storm shad or the chartrues shad best time is the last 2 hours before dark, I put 50 nice walleye in the freezzer, for the winter dinners, also 24 nice pike. I strickly cast now that the weeds are up I would switch to a weedless 1/8 pink and white jig head tied directly to line, with a curly tail, I found if you take the hook on the jig bend it at aprox. 2o degr. hook curly tail same as bass fisherman hook there worms, you can scoot thru weeds with not much problem. : :)

Just yesterday i was fishin for cats to the right of the boat rental. The smallest of 8 lbs. up to a 14 lb. The only downside is lots of snaping turtles. Off the dam is a good spot as well. :fish:
Nice cats! I'll be up there cattin and carpin with the lads Sunday afternoon. They don't like the free bumpy ride LSC offers every weekend, regardless of wind.

Who's to say that Catfish aren't predators ? :) I was fishing with Esox a couple of years ago on LSC. I was having a bit of a hard time adjusting to using one of his big baitcasters. (We were casting for Musky) He said "Give me that thing, I'll show you how to do it". I handed him the rod and he reared back and let one fly. Almost the instant the lure (a BIG Canadian Wiggler I think it was) hit the water there was a huge commotion. It was a nice fish. At first we thought it was a Musky but as we got it closer and boated the fish, it turned out to be a NICE Cat ! We laughed our butts off. FIRST cast and a Cat on a huge musky bait no less. :) :)
