I haven't heard anything on the '04 Muskie Slam...it was held this past weekend, wasn't it? I'm heading out to the pond on Saturday and I was hoping that some guys would loosen their lips now that the tourney is over and give away their hot spots. Anyone with a report???

72 boats were entered.
First Place "Fearless" 53 1/4 Inch.
Second Place "Almost Paradise" 52 "
Third Place "Sleeper" 51 3/4
Lots of fish caught and realesed in the 50 inch range. We caught a total of 11 fish, biggest at 7:50 A.M. Saturday morning 48 ", 25 pounds, a very nice fish, but not big enough. 9 of 11 fish were taken on wash rods. All released to fight again. :dizzy:
Big numbers were taken on the South shore from the Belle River towards Stony Pointe. :fish:
If I was looking for a fish over 50 inches I would concentrate on the North end of the lake from the Fire Cracker towards the Johnston, 16-18 feet of water. We watched "Fearless" net the first place hog at about 7:00 P.M. in that area. No prevelent color, they hit on anything in the water at certain times. :fish2:
In looking back to 2001, all winning fish were over 51 inches for the last four years. :bash:
Great weather, lots of fun, will be back next year. :tdo12:

P.S.: Fish legal in Canada, they are taking no prisoners this year, you get caught and it will cost you big time. We were stopped once had a fish on at the time, there main question, how many rods in the water and show us your licenses. Remember those guys don't pass the laws, they try to uphold them. Plus you are a guest in their country. :grouphug:

Thanks Dick! I knew there was somebody out there who could fill us in on the results.
I also have a question about fishing legally in Canada since we haven't done it very often. Will the MNR give us any problems if there is someone on my boat who doesn't have a Canuck license but isn't fishing? As long as we're running the correct amount of lines (1 per licensed "angler") and the correct amount of hooks (4 per line), right???
BTW, if anyone is looking for a good mortgage guy, look no further! I refinanced with Dick Graves about 6 months ago and it went as smooth as one can ask for.

Pencil Plugger, you got it, 1 rod per license. I herd one boat lost nine rods and was cited by the MNR. Makes for a VERY expensive weekend.
I believe the winning fish came on a St. Lawrence, Lokie. Not sure, talked to the Captain on Saturday night, but my memory is a little foggy. The winning fish was awesome. :yikes: 3 man crew on a big Viking, they did a nice job, awesome vessel.
If I ever hit the big one and wanted a beautifull fishing boat, the Viking Sportfisherman would be at the top of the food chain for me. :dizzy:

I take it other muskie fisherman were not keeping a heads up for what I think they are calling him the man over the radio
I hear the rod limit is supposed to change next year, the muskie club that consists of Canada and the US, I cant remember the name of the club, but they worked to get this changed, If I am not mistaken.. Cya Slick

Was out sunday and we boated a 49" 29 3/4 lbs. by the firecracker 1:00pm. Board rod 25 back with 4oz weight, 7" rapala magnum clown. The boy who caught the fish(15 year old justin smith) is hanging it on the wall. Figures he just started fishing this season with his dad and he boats a wall hanger. Looks like I'll just have to keep on trying, had lots of fun.

Cookie tell Justin nice job, sounds like it is a "Hog". For some reason the big fish "mooskies" seem to hang from the North shore of the lake out towards the middle around the South Weather Buoy, (center of the lake). Problem is you never know where you are going to lay into a real big fish, meaning 51" plus. :grouphug:
Have herd tales of some real mosters in the Detroit River, around the Scott Middle Grounds, but it is brutal to fish that area, you will loose plenty of tackle, break a few rods, etc., etc.. :bash:
Bottom line they are the most powerfull, fighting fish in S.E. Michigan on LSC and are a lot of fun to catch. :fish2:
If Justin is mounting the 49 ", advise him to save the next mount for a 52" plus fish. Maybe next year he should enter the "Muskie Slam". :dizzy:
Keep the lines tight and the tip up. :yikes: Enjoy the rest of the summer, it is closing out on us fast. :dizzy:

The above fish was taken today around the South Weather buoy, off the Belle River this afternoon, measured and weighed on the boat. Revived and released. The captain had a 35 MM camera and is having the pictures developed. Will post it when they are available.
Sounds like they are ready to blast off till the fall slaughter. :yikes:

Dick, thanks for the info, had a blast netting the fish (took 2 dips ,#1 was:bash: ) good thing Capt. Al had a big net.
I have caught 3 muskie in the 45 to 46" class the last 2 years fishing for walleye with crawlers at the firecracer and lost a couple of other ones.
Seems like I see alot of the Muskie guys trolling thru there in july and august.
Where are the walleye?

EH: Try "Up Tour Alley" charter service, he is from that area. Don't have his number. The Muskie Slam is open to the public, both U.S. & Canada. Canadian boat won about 4 years ago. Fish was taken near the Thames River. :yikes:
Walleyes are hiding out somewhere, damned if I can find them. Fished two days las week, caught 2 "gators". Lots of small perch and bass, but the gators are elusive. :bash:

Hey Dick, You're right, it was a Loke straight bait (St Lawrence) that won the Slam. Awesome fish as I remember
Rod ran a great tournament again at HPYC, all had fun and with had great weather. We boated 13 nice fish with a 47 1/2" for the longest and also on a Loke (jointed) St Lawrence on a down rod. Next best was at 46" flat on a Gotcha jointed blue frog (old bait), also on a down rod. This poor bait has about had it, I don't know whats holding it together as its caught most fish for me to date!
It was a great tournament "HotRod" , first class operation in all respects! For those who did not fish this year for whatever reason :bash: , you missed a great tournament and have a nice day! :piparty: :piparty:
