This was caught up on our lake July 5th by our neighbor DJ. My nephew took him out on our 14ft aluminum to kill the last hour that they both had to go home. I was out with my wife, brother and his wife catching a few crappie when they left the dock to go and troll for the many hammer handles in our lake. We knew they were muskie in the lake as they planted 50 of them 10 years ago and 4 that we know have been caught.
They got near the deepest hole on our lake and DJ. thew his line out and before my nephew could get the boat slowed down and his line out something had DJ's pole doubled over and was screaming drag. They yelled to us as they were up wind from us and about 750 yards away, if we had the net. We yelled back NO and told them just go grab whatever it is. After another 5 minutes we notice them still fighting the fish and then my nephew yelled back "It's a MUSKE" We pulled up anchor and took off. Word travels fast cause anyone within earshot of the last yell was standing on the docks or heading over there with their boats. When we got to them we saw the fish :tdo12: We pulled the two boats together to see if I could grab it. The hook was not in that good so I didn't want to take the chance. I then grabbed a beach towel and my sister-in-law and me made a craddle that we got under the fish and hoisted it in!!!
We got back to our beach and there were alread about 40 people there waiting for us. DJ was shaking so bad that he didn't want to lift the fish up untill it was over land so I got it there for him.
The 50"er fell to a 3/8 oz. white and blue tandem willow leaf spinner. It is currently getting mounted and he wants to put it in him Grandma and Grandpa's cabin where he caught it. It's something he will never forget and alot of laughs to be had after it was all done about us ignoring them and then using the towel to land the fish.
Hope the pic comes out if not look in my gallery.http://first muskie
