went straight out of bole's about 5 miles, there were a lot of boats, a lot of charters drifting and trolling, I had two boys 6 and 9 and their Dad with me, first time for them to be on Erie, I was hoping for at least a average day for them as the boys biggest fish to date was about 6 inch bluegills, after the days of n/w winds at 20 to 25 ithe wind was out of the west about 8 mph, real good conditons, One lousy sheep anout 14 inchs, one perch about 3 inchs and one small goby, my friend is good at checking lines for tangle and make sure the ones with crawlers were ok and 2 rods with hot and tots when we trolled, we saw about 3 sheeps landed, the radio was quiet, the charters didn't seem to be catching any thing.
WE were using 6 rods all the time and never saw any walleyes caught, not even silver bass.
these boys love fishing and I couldn't believe their patience, very well behaved, just wished they would have caught a few walleye, the one boy couldn't understand why we threw his giant fish away, he asked what it was and I told him a sheeps head, in a few minutes I said I hope you catch a cows head, he thought for a few minutes and said mr levinski you are making that up, I laughed. when we got home the boys help carry the gear to the garage, on the porch I have a remote controled fan that I have the neighbors kids believeing I can talk to it and turn it on and off, I told the boys this fan was magic and I clicked the tiny remote and it came on when I said turn on fan, well the 6 year old looked at the fan and quickly back at my hand and said you have a remote control, I couldn't believe he caught me. sharp little kid

I tried out of Bolles on Friday as well. We took 1 pass in Michigan waters and got a big zero. The boys then decided to swim. They wanted a boat ride so I drove out past MacDonalds Marker. We fished there and the fishing was good. 1 oz snap weights run 50/50 with harnesses with gold blades and red beads did the trick. It seems that we have reached the time of year where an Ohio license is a big help. You may already know this but if you must fish Michigan and the open water bite is off, try in close of the stoney point spine (be careful, it gets really shallow), humps off the River Raisin outlet, or close (6-10 feet) in just north of the Ohio boarder. I have found that the last spot fishes good the last few hours before dark.

Your chart shows the McDonalds/New Structure marker. We were a mile or 2 east of there. You will see the boats. You are in Ohio so get the license. The fish were about 15 feet down in 28 feet of water. We took a few off the bottoom. When you check the bottom baits, real in slow, the fish will often times hit on the retrieve. Its like a long cast and loads oof fun for the youngsters when it happens. As far as Michigan waters, some of the best humps don't show on a map. If you find one, mark it on your GPS. Some of the time, they will hold a few larger fish. They come and go. Sometimes they are on the humps and you get a few and other times they are vacant. The shallow ones (10 feet or less) fish best early and late in the day. I like to run bottom bouncers and drag them up and down the hump. Some fellas jig them off. Sometimes the fish suspend in the water adjacent to the hump @ the same depth as the top of the hump. Spinners with snapweights, spoons, or plugs will take these fish. Stoney Point fishes well in tight when there is a mudline. Southwest winds and believe it or not, northeast winds fish best. Fish from 16 - 20 or so feet up to 6 and back down. Start in the clear water (usually upwind) and fish into the mud. You will lose some tackle and the depth rises fast so be careful. The best bet is to check it out on a calm day and get a feel for where the big boulders and shallow water are. Come back when there is mudline and/or strong winds in the directions mentioned above. The fish will be in the mud. Use bright plugs and spinners to catch these fish. There is a small group of large resident fish that feed here during the windy days and at night on calm days. You will also catch drum, white bass, and smallmouth here as well. Good luck to you.
