I am staying at my dads cabin on Black for the week and heard the walleye fishing is just about non existent right now. Can anyone prove this theory wrong? I heard that the dnr has stopped planting walleyes and the natural reproduction is not that good. I have done good trolling hot n tots two years ago and the year before that. Last year produced nothin in a week of fishing. A few pike and one very large smallmouth bass. Just wondering if anyone on the site has been on Black and knows the scoop. Thanks so much.

I have been fishing Black Lake since I was a kid (28 years) with my dad and grandfathers who vacationed and lived there since 1955. We use to just fish the 20 to 40 foot depths using 3-ways with white flatfish and crawler harnesses this time of the year and always caugt 3 to 4 fish. The last 10 years the fishing has changed during the summer months that we work the flats (10 to 14 feet) by the dropoffs with crawler harnesses with split shot just above the weeds early in the morning untill 10:00 then again late in the evening. The last couple of years I have trolled crawler harnesses on the bottom (3-way) across big marks in the 20 to 40 foot range with no takers. I decided to drift above the marks in August and jig with a white and glow 4" twister tail tipped with a worm with prety good success. I still mark alot of schools of baitfish out in the deeper water and have seen marks in these schools so the walleye are doing good they are just getting picker this time of the year I think. I will be up at Black Lake the last week of July. Good luck I hope this helps!

Bigardo, thanks for the info. I will be leaving the 17th and coming back the 25th. My dads cabin is on the east side between the rainy river and the boat launch. I go by ketchum on the water and my license plate on my truck read bohunt1. Give me a shout if you want.
