Brian,
I don't have an answer but did surprisingly find some info on your motor. I went to sears.com and clicked on "parts". Then entered the model number you gave us and it is listed on their site. There are exploded parts illustrations and everything. Looks like parts are still available. Maybe a call to their service center would get you the info you're looking for. That's one thing that I really like about Sears, they support the merchandise they sell very well.

Still can't find the year.
This is a motor that I'm getting rid of. Heading out to Van's in Grand Rapids tomorrow and maybe pick up a used 25 hp. Hopefully I can trade in the 15 hp and get something for it.
It can run good when it wants to but its just too tempermental for me. One time, I was trying to slow it down a little while trolling and it stalled out. Couldn't get it started again. Ever since then I just stuck with my '62 Evinrude 10hp.
