:fish: My brother-in-law is coming down from Toronto in a couple of weeks after I go to Rice Lake with him for a couple of days. Cool deal!! My question is when fishing Stag Island what is the best way to fish it? Does one go into the channel between the Island and the Canadian side? Should we drift with harnesses or whipping or handlining or troll? Looking to show my brother-in-law a good time walleye fishing. Hard to beat Rice Lake and it's blue gill and sun fish. Caught sunfish last year that were the width of my hand and as big as big blue gill. Thanx for your help

When my buddy and I fish Stag this time of year, we start by handlining spoons or #7 raps below the island from 8-9 PM. Then we move to the head of the island behind can by 9:30 PM and use spoons and pencils. When it gets dark, we go to all pencils and drop back towards the shallows (as shallow as 6 ft.) and slide back and forth between shallowest hump and the American side drop off, but not lowering weight to bottom of drop off. If water is super clean, use chrome w/chartreuse or blue and if it’s slightly off color, use white or pearl with some yellow, blue and/or red. Eyes will usually show up between 9:30 and 11:30 PM. Sometimes after midnight is the best time to slide back and forth right behind can in deep water. We’ve also caught some in front of red can across from the Edison plant if Stag was not producing. Stag is one of my favorite places to fish in the SCR. Good luck.

I'd like to stress that! I've had good luck on black.

On the USA side, fish the shoal right at the drop off, also lots of good holes close to USA side right up close to the boat houses and shore line.

I would stay away from the channel on Ontario side. Just stay in the shallows then back towards the American side.
