Used bow just bought

I just bought a bow from my father-in-law, of which he gave me a deal I couldn't pass on. It's a Bear Epic extreme, which is about 2-3 years old. Came all set up with the rest and a red dot scope. Any opinions on this bow and or scope? I haven't shot it yet, and just am wondering how it will compare to my old bow (a Jenning's barracuda) that I love. I'm shooting Line Jammers. Thanks for any opinions/recommendations.

what brand scope. Scopes are a matter of taste really. I shoot one but it limits your shot to whatever you set it up at. So if it is set up for 20 yards you need to mentally prepare your shot if you are shooting at a buck at 5 yards.

One thing about buying used is you may need to have it serviced from a pro shop. Especially check that your string and cables haven't stretched. Write the manufacturer and ask them what your axle pin to axle pin should measure. If it has stretched more than 1/2" you should consider replacing the string. A bow string may run you probably $75-100.

I too shoot the Epic Extreme and like if very much. I find it very easy to draw and hold with higher end let off. I have never found any need for major or minor tweeking of this bow and it still shoots nice tight groups. I think that you will like this bow very much.

I have just recently switched to a red dot scope (Pollington 33mm). I have shot it at deer target both from a stand and from ground level. Also, I've taken shots during the middle of the day as well as right before total darkness (real late). I would say at this point that I wish I had made the switch long ago. However, I have not tested the scope thru a seaason yet to see how it stands up to the elements and hunting conditions.

If I can ask, how good was the deal?

I have had my red dot for 4 years and my cuz has been using his for 6yrs. I won't hunt with out my Red Dot.

That's good news. I can't hardly wait to be looking down on a nice mature buck. I'm already going nuts waiting on the opener. ;)

Thanks for all the good info. The scope is a Tasco Reddot. Probably not the best one, but I can't complain. The bow has been maintained very well at Cook's in Monroe. I'll probably get the strings replaced in the next few weeks. Now I just hope that I get to hunt a few times this year. Baby due in August, so we'll see how it goes.

You may or may not be already screwed. It all depends... is this your first child? If mamma is ok in body and mind after the baby comes you should be ok.

I like my red dot, it is a whole new prospective on shooting.

My son was born in October 24th actually. I was able to hunt the mornings without a problem. I would spend the evenings getting the house work done taking care of the baby was easy they dont need much at that age. Mostly I made sure to take care of my wife in the evenings get things ready for her in the morning and be considerate. I was surprised how much I was able to hunt. Missed the bigest buck I have seen that year too :)

Just went to the doctor yesterday. He said it could be any day, so I may be OK by deer season. As for my fishing trip this weekend......... by by.
