Its been very very slow as of lately.I have been fishing up there lately and havent seen many or caught many of them.Walleye fishing this year has been off quite a bit from this same time last year. Its pretty sad as big as this river is that you can fish there day and night and cant even catch as much as stupid sheepshead much less a few wallleye.

I went north of the BWB sunday night for three hours and didn`t have a hit . I spoke with 2 guys who had 1. We were all using bottom bouncers. I did see a hand-liner bring one in though. I don`t remember it ever being this slow for this time of year. Water temp. was 66.5 degrees and crystal clear.

Might want to try closer to shore downriver a little bit past the black river. I've had three people tell me now that they are catching them off their docks. I live in PH, just don't have a boat to get out there and try it. If you go south of where black river dumps into the St. Clair River and in where all the residentials are you might have some luck.. One guy said he was just casting a plug, and the other two said twisters.

The fish are there guys but they are getting sore mouth a typical and seasonal occurance for them this time of year. They typicaly slow down on biting because of this but still can be caught. You just have to use much smaller baits than you would normaly use. This sore mouth typicaly last about a month or so then the bite picks up.Your fish are usualy much smaller this time of year also.Things generaly pick up again with the bigger fish coming in again during late august /september sometime.I would try drifting with worms this time of year.

Hey there Stinger I dont think they are having sore mouth yet, the right time of year but everything is off about a month.. They few I caught this weekend were large walleye, not the tipical small ones you get this time of year.. The water temp is still off as well for this time of year.

I guess it is all speculation but that is what I think is going on, because everyone I talked to that fish around the state have been saying the same thing, fishing is diffrent this year..

Salmon south when they should be far north, the only place that I seen on schedule is Eriau it is right on time..

Well I guess if I had all the answers I would have all the fish, kind like last year, but not this year.. I just going off the reports I have been hearing.. Cya Slick

PS.. I think I am going to call Tubjig and see how he has been doing, because the last time I talked to him, things were diffrent on the lake as well..

..

Trust me "slick" they have sore mouth. Many of the waleyes I have been catching lately have all the redness inside their mouths aound the teeth area.If i had a digatal camera I could show you photos of it.I always thought that this phenominon was something that occured with the water temp getting up in the 70`s which usual occurs in late July or early august. This year our water temps are much colder than the norm so that blows my theory on that one.
One for sure fishing has been very different this year compared to the last couple.

Hi Gang - Not to stir the pot, but the "sore mouth" thing in Musky/Pike/Walleye is an Old Wifes tale. Bob WC# 253.

I agree with Bob on this one, old wives tale.

Hey Mike my brother-en-law (tincan) fished stag island and the power palnt a few nights ago for his first time. He ended up with 2 fish and lost one. Considering he had never fished the area he did ok .

Fishing is slow. I couldn't muster one up yesterday morning while my neighbor caught two in the SCR bottom bouncing. He and my brother in law went out this morning and fished by the seaway terminal and up into the lake using BB and didn't have any luck. However, one guy they ran past and into at the dock caught four right off the bat at day break. I too have heard sore mouth is a wives tale and the redness maybe due to the annual mayfly larvae hatch which has them feeding amongst the bottom/rocks until the hatch is gone- maybe another wives tale.

Well, I have already told you more than I know..gilly

I have to tend to agree with Gilly on this one it is just something about the time of year weather it be bait or some other enviormental BS that just causes the bite to slow down for a little while..

I have never seen any diffrence in how the mouth looks thru out the year, or maybe my electric knife is just to quickto get a close look at them LOL.. All I know is I wanna catch fish like the last few years "JUmPING IN THE BOAT" Have a good one guys Cya Slick

My buddy and I handlined behind the green can above the bridge on 7/6 from 9:15 till midnight (when the lightening and rain chased us off the water). We got 2 eyes around 9:45 in deep water towards the channel on a rainbow spoon and one on a chartreuse backed AC Shiner (like a fat rapala). Then got 2 more about 11:00 on first hump from shore on chrome w/chartreuse backed pencil. Also lost a big one half way up about same time frame. BTW, while drifting with scuba gear the last couple of weeks from the channel marker below the bridge to the YMCA above the black river, we have seen quite a few walleyes (no fewer than in previous years at this time)

Well guys I am heading out hopefully tonight (Friday) to Stag and the Marysville power plant, I'll give a report in the morning, last week end when I went out I got 2 and lost 1, (on Rapalas clown and gold/orange) a guy that was heading in at about 2:30am (when I was heading out) had three. Thus it seems that some fish (walleye) are on the river. Last week was the first time that I have fished this area so I am hoping that things go a little better tonight (If the rains hold off).

All I know is that two weeks ago on the Detroit River I had a good time pulling in four in about 15 minutes in front of the High Rise by the WYC

Ya gotta work for them on the St Clair River

If tonight goes bad I am going to try fishing around St.Clair on the Saint Clair River. tomorrow night.

We'll see
