How to become a mate

I was wondering if anyone knows any information on how one would become a mate on a charter boat. I don't know why it took me so long to think of, but I love to fish, am generally good at it (not lately....but that's a different story), and think I would really enjoy this as a summer job. I don't really care where, as long as it's not over 2 hours away or something. Lake St. Clair, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and maybe even Lake Michigan for muskie, walleye, salmon, whatever. Just wondering if anyone had any leads they wouldn't mind sharing with me. Thanks!

The easiest way to become a mate on a charter boat is to marry the captain lol
if that is not an option. it couldn't hurt to call up some chater captians and ask if there is a position open, or Offer to meet with him after his charter trip to help him clean the boat and get to know you/him. If this happens watch what type of shoes you wear. white soft sole that wont scuff would be best. If his boat is already clean offer to take of your shoes before entering. (DO NOT jump from the dock into his boat:: ever)) step in. Shake his hand when you meet and call him captian until he says otherwise. Good luck hope this helps.
