Well it seems the lakers were a little tougher to get going still managed all we wanted but it just took a little longer. On the Salmon front the news seemed to be a little better we finally caught, saw and herd of some salmon of decent size. I have to say that the 23 and 25 lber's I herd about over the radio were probably much smaller than that once on the scale, although I hope not...I do have to add I caught my smallest and my biggest of the year so far. We ended up with 3 for 5 on kings Saturday morning and 2-3 on them Sunday. I went in opposite directions leaving my honey hole to do a little scouting for the first time this year. Good Luck everyone and have a Great and Safe 04 Fishing season.

How about some info? How deep of water, what lures, what methods were used. Nobody's asking for gps numbers to your honeyhole but a little info besides how many you caught would be nice. Good fishin!

Yes , What About Some Info Like Fow-- Colors--- Main Lines--- Lead Core--- Hoochie Mamas-- Flies--squids-- Lures-- Dipsies And On And On. It's Great That You Finnaly Got Some Silver But The Information Is Lacking Quite Sadly Especially From A Person Of Your Stature On This Forum. I Fish Up In Harrisville And I Believe You Do To, But Even If You Don't That Fishing Info; Will Be Of Help To Those Who Do, I Mean Like It's Only A Spit Up Wind And Your In The Harbor From Oscoda. I Assure You When I Get Back Friday From Harrisville You'll Have Any And Everything That I Caught Fish On And Even General Ares's Not The Gps Or Loran Readings, Not That It Will Do Any Good Because All The Locals Know Where The Two Main Holes Are Anyhow. Tight Lines And Sure Knots!

Hey Stinky!

Thanks for the report! Looks like they are starting to show up which is a very good sign. When I was up there over memorial weekend there was absolutely no salmon being caught. Can't wait to get up there in a few weeks for my favorite kind of fishing. Hopefully I will see you and joel up there sometime.

Little effort. I fished North on Saturday from 44-24 all the way to 44-29, catching lakers the whole way in 65 to 80 foot of water. We also picked up one smaller salmon, 3-4 lbs. The lures that were working best on these fish and this depth were as follows, Jeff Berry, Camo Jeff Berry, White Screwball, White Dodger with White Fly, White/green Fishcatcher with Pickled Sunshine fly, and Dr. K. We managed one king and 15 Lakers releasing six and missing two kings. And don't tell me I didn't know they were kings, because I've been fishing these fish for quite sometime now and can tell the difference not only in the strike but the way they swim once they are hooked. This was all before 8 am. I then decided to do a little more scouting in deeper water at the northern end of our troll. We hit 120 foot of water around 9 am and by 9:15 we had a 13.25 LB king in the box. She came on a Silver Screwball on the mono dipsy only 90 back. Then the last king came on Black Screwball down 59 over 134 feet. This king was about a nine pounder that thought he was a steelhead. I started to troll in with six rods out at 9:50 am as soon as we hit less than 90 feet of water 5 of the six rods popped up we landed 3 of the 5 and one was a 18 to 20 Laker that we quickly released.

On Sunday I decided to go in the other direction. I ran down to the can, for those that don't know 44 19. We picked up one decent king right off the bat on the silver screwball and mono dipsy 75 back in 50 foot of water and lost another on Jeff Berry on the rigger 35 back and 35 down. I thought all right we are in em, but then it turned into Laker heaven again at this point I started trolling back to port, we picked our six fish limit of Lakers to go along with the two kings and the other king we lost. We also released several Lakers using totally different spoons, yellow tail, ludington watermellon, pink and blue alewife, and antifreeze, also silver dodger with green fly and orange/white Fishcatcher with noseem fly. You see I didn’t want to use the same lures we were catching all the Lakers on but it didn’t seem to matter they were gobbling up everything they saw. We were off the water and cleaning fish by 10:30 am.

It didn’t matter if I was tight to the ball or 75 feet back the Lakers took whatever they saw. Oh yea I ran meat and caught Lakers to so I quit running it.

Now Big shooter go out and see if you can catch fish on your own using a little ingenuity yourself, you will find its a lot more fun catching fish you found yourself through a little work than relying on others to put you on them. Good luck as I believe you will need it deploying that type of strategy.

Again have a great and safe 04-fishing season.

Rick,

I think you will need to set the lines and coordinate so these guys can catch fish, great report, looks like I will head up this weekend so if you have room let me know.

Wow! From one extreme to anouther. I've been fishin kings on both sides for 20 years, so I don't need any help catching laker's at Oscoda. I just hate to see all the talk of limits with no info. Some people appreciate the "little" extra info to get them started on their next trip. Did'nt mean to hit any raw nerves. Good Fishin!

There is an old saying, if you do not have anything good to say then keep your mouth shut. Ok I am done. And do yourself a favor, don't read any more of my posts.

Jeff, I wish I could, I have tons of family coming up, plan on hitting the harrisville fire works.

I am fishing the tournament out of Oscoda the following weekend (Are YOU?) and will be up the whole week and no internet. Thus no more post untill Monday 7/13/04
Good Luck in the tourney, all though I am sure you will do well, hope you get into some kings, hope we all get into some kings soon.

Hey Stinky,
You mind if I throw a tow line to you? That way I'll know exactly where to go! :D :one_eye:

Well you didn’t want a tow rope this past weekend, but earlier in the week we found some decent kings and even a couple of steelhead. Sadly to say, over the weekend, fish some how found out I paid the entry fee for a tourney and decided my boat was marked. Must a said don’t Eat Here; I made the mistake of not going deep enough I believe. In my defense the fish in the earlier part of the week were caught in 60 to 90 feet of water with the Steelies in 65 so I was kind of suckered. If I had it to do over (considering the calm waters), I would have ran to 150 to 200 foot of water which in Oscoda is about 14 or 15 miles out.

It wasn't a total loss over the weekend just couldn't hook up with the weighty fish.

Basically using the same techniques as described above all week only the meat was a little hotter this week on both the riggers and the wire. The Steelies came within 10 minutes of each other, the 9 lb hen and then here 5.5 lb boyfriend. Both on the Mono Dipsy 111 back with black screwball. We primarily fished up north.
Good Luck all.

Hey Stinky,

Looks like we better get a practice round in on Saturday. Sunday's looking a little rough. But, never know for sure until the alarm clock goes off.
