Ok gang. :grouphug:
I am going to be very busy this month working 12hrs and the 4th of July weekend coming. So I am going to get this posted right now. Please captains and crew members let me know who cannot make this so I can mark you all down. Also if any members off this web site like to join us in the event please let me know so I can put you down, I am only taking up to 20 boats. Its all for fun and I hope we all have a great time fishing together.

Here is the rules
please copy them if you have to.

1-Pay at 4:30am Saturday July 17th, at Port Sheldon boat launch.
2-2-3 man teams, If you have 4 in your boat you must only catch a 3 man limit.
3- 6 Rod limit
4- $15.00 a boat ($10 for most weight and $5 for big fish)
5-Weigh in 5 fish of any kind (salmon,steelheads,lake trout,browns, and kings) Please have only 5 fish in your cooler to weigh in.
6- please now what is your big fish and little fish. There will be no checking on the scales.
7- Soon as your crew is there and ready you can leave for the big lake, fishing starts at 5am-11am. (no fishing till 5am)
8- Pull lines at 11am and get in as soon as possible. If you got SKUNKED please let me know right away.
POINTS SYSTEM:
Browns 20pts.
Steelheads 15pts
Kings 10 pts.
cohos 5 pts.
Lake Trout 0 pts. :evil:

Bonus points
Clip fin (small fin by the tail)...5 pts

So far we have only had 2 fin clips and it made a big difference who had won that event.

Tie Breakers will be done by the 6the fish in your boat.

One more thing. This trip can be counted as one of your trips for the summer salmon fishing tournament. I hope you've all seen the webpage.

We have a special division for people without boats who fish as crew members with other site members. You and the captain of the boat can both submit the catch towards total weight. Big fish entries only count for one of you, you'll have to decide that. Only one crew member per boat can enter any given catch though.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding the MS.com summer salmon fishing tournament. If you don't have a digital camera I'll have mine there and I'm sure a few other people will as well, so we can take the appropriate pictures.

One last thing. If you read the rules, you'll see we have some secret "customer loyalty" prizes. Look at the companies who have donated, if you're using one of their products it would benefit you to take a picture with a fish you catch using that lure or flasher. More chances to win prizes. I can't tell you which sponsors the prizes are from, but if you read into things you'll have at least a bit of a hint.

Caz- I just got off the phone with the guide that I was going with this weekend. (Matt Supinski) We were going to try for atlantics up on the St. Marys river, but he said the fishing this year just plain sucks. So we decided to cancel the trip and reschedule something else. We're going to try for them on Torch Lake at the beginning of November instead.

So that means I can make it this weekend! So if there still is a boat that requires a crew member I'm in! Any takers???

Either I will or Sarah C will be posting the wave report on here to see if we will be able to go fishing Saturday. Right now they are calling 10-20mph winds from the north and 1-3 foot waves. The waves dont sound bad but with the wind at 10-20mph worries me and it seems like it could be to ruff to fish. So please make sure to check this forum out around 8:30pm tonight to see if we are going to have this event or not. If we do not have the event on Saturday, the make up day will be this Sunday (7/18/04) Same time and same place. So dont get upset if this is cancelled because of the waves. Id rather all of us fish safe than someone get hurt out there.

Safety first... Especially considering we start pre-dawn. I've been out in 6-8's (not on purpose of course) and felt pretty safe slowly motoring in, but that's when I can see. Nothing gives me the heeby-jeebys about fishing the big lake more than trying to run in the dark when the waves are high.

If possible, can we PM the captains with a name and phone list of all the possible crew members. Maybe we as captains can make the arrangements for crew members instead of you having to deal with the arrangements and changes. I say this not because you are doing a bad job (you're doing incredible actually) but because I think that we should be making our arrangements for crews and take that burden off you. Maybe I haven't thought this out enough but I would appreciate thoughts and comments. I think that everyone has been really good about getting someone on board if there has been room so maybe we can work it out on the captain's end.

Looks like that wind will change overnight judging from the marine nearshore report and looking at the regional radar loops. Probably will be fishable, but fighting a stiff north wind and 3 foot hard chop ain't no fun in my book. Sunday looks much better, and it is listed as the first blow date in July.

ok guys, i have checked out the weather on two different marine forcasts. one says 2 to 4, and the other says 1 to 3.

either way it is going to be a brisk north blow with chances of showers and thunderstorms until about noon or so.

this is the problem guys it is being left up to me on what to do as far as calling it off and i dont know what to do.

i think it will be fishable for boats my size, but there are guys that will have smaller boats.

i want some feedback from you guys as to cancel it or not

No 5-15 knots out of the north. We're willing to give it a shot. Forecasts are sometimes wrong.

I say we fish. I have a 17' boat and we may get splashed a little but that's fishable by my definition. Besides, from the reports I've seen no one is going to be more than a few miles from the pierhead.

People planned around this thing. I suspect more people would miss the blow date than would ever have a problem fishing tomorrow.

I'd say "uncomfortable" fishing means we've gotta go. "Unsafe" is another matter.

after i put the last post up i went out to the boat and turned the marine radio on and listened to the forcast from the nws and they said it is going to be calm to a foot first thing in the morning building to 1 to 3.

We are going to pass on this one. I agree it will be very fishable, but its been a long tough week for me at work and I don't feel like fighting the weather when I can pick either day to fish. So we will probably hit the lake Sunday a.m. instead. Good luck out there!
