Who has the best gps of any type? What is it and how much?Also how accurate? Thanks

one is as good as another . Today they are all accurate. I used a small hand held for years. you don't need to get fancy the only trick to a gps is learning to use it .. I'd look at the garmin hand held. Only thing you might consider is a Cigarette plug or direct hook-up to the boat bat. they sell them. The units say you get 12 hrs of use off a fresh charge. Trust me 12 hrs is not a long time.
When you get one use it every day you go out. That way when it gets dark or fogggy you'll be confident with it.

Mine is a garmin 76 map, It seems to be very accurate and locks on quickly.
A few weekends ago My son and I were fishing out of Harbor Beach, We went N/E out of the Harbor. The wind started to kick up and fog rolled in.
I turned on the GPS and we were 7 miles north of the harbor, the waves kept building and we slowly made it back in. With out it we would have had to wait for the fog to lift to find the entrance to the harbor. One thing is you have to practice with it and learn how to use it. Mine has brought me back to a waypoint within 3'. Cost was $299.00 at Bass Pro Shops. The map feature is nice. It has major highways lakes and marker bouys already loaded in it. More detailed maps are availble but cost around $100.00.

Keep in mind a couple of things. Fewer features equals shorter learning curve. One of the biggest complaints I hear about GPS is that it gives wrong data. Typically one of the problems is that the user must give the receiver a few seconds to update its position. This can only be done while the user is moving. I am not referring to the electronic compass feature that some units have. I am referring to satellite navigation. You must be in forward motion, continuously for several seconds for the unit to update and be accurate. Don't overbuy! Another common error is that many consumers will buy a unit and never update the software for their unit. This MUST be done. Unfortunately, none of the dealers that I am aware of offer this service for free. Which means, once you buy a receiver, you must also buy a PC Interface cable unless the unit you buy comes with one. Then, you simply install the cable on your home computer and visit the manufacturers webpage and look for the latest software package for your unit. This can add features as well as correct many errors that may occur. Good luck finding a retailer that is honest and can answer your questions. There aren't many out there!
