Last weekend we were setting up some new food plots. We had gotten done tilling the soil over and broke for lunch. It was raining so we left the tractor out at the plot and walked in. When we walked back out the grass was really wet and we were trying to be quiet to see if any deer were around. When we came out over the ridge there was a cow and 2 yearling cubs in the fresh furrows we just cut eating worms and grubs. It was a shock because nobody has seen bears on this land for over 10 years.

That was in Lupton Heights, near Rose City off 33.

Was it a cow with 2 bear cubs or a sow with 2 bear cubs?

Let me think about that for a moment...

BTW I talked to a farmer last week and I didn't even get the story out of my mouth before he said it has happened to him before too. The bears hear the tractor and run in to eat whatever grubs and worms the tiller kicks up.

Funny you would see Bear in this area.

The first Bear I had ever seen in the wild, short of a dump out of the back seat of a car, was in the Lupton hills, or at least we used to call them that. We were squirell hunting and was an under ager of 10 carring my whopping Crossman Powermaster 760. At that age I was confident that if that bear came any closer he would be sorry! Now I'm glad he didn't, because I remember thinking a head shot would at least knock him out. And besides my dad was just 40 or 50 yards away and had in the opinion of a 10 yr old the ultimate hunting weapon of all time, his trusty 22 rifle.
Although he would have probably just ran off, I'm sure glad that I didn't find out first hand. I almost feel silly admitting this, but your siting brought back alot of good memories!
