Took 4 members from three different MWT fishing teams on a fishing charter today. They called this morning on a chance I was free, and we hit the water by 8:30am. Awful nice of these (good to begin with) fishermen to trust Ol' Capt: Dan to add to their fishing wisdom. And I showed these boys almost everything I knew. And catching anything today, with it being so flat, hot and calm, has always been tough on the Bay. So keep your eye on team numbers 17, 19 and 30 this weekend.
I was also in contact with another friend of mine today, who is fishing the tourney this weekend, and he only caught one walleye all day between the Coreon Reef and the Shipping Channel. He made our 9 for 13 day seemed like an awful nice catch. We ran two different programs again today. Ran 3 1/2 hours with big boards and sliders and 3 1/2 hours with Inlines and harnesses. Most were caught on program one, and the bigger fish on program two with the inlines. All but two were caught with GULPS. :grouphug:
I also found out something neat tonight. Ran into my first cousin at Red Lobster, where me and the warden were celebrating our 26th anniversary. Seems his son, my second Cousin Mike Manyen, was the one who won the Labradie Tourney last week and I never even knew it. Might call that boy and see if he wants to teach me some things. :bloos: :chillin:

Have you noticed how dang clean and pretty the Walleye have been we're catching this year ? :) Even the big fish, outstanding colors, lots of gold on 'em, real bright. Gotta love the Bay, sometimes a little tough to figure out, but wow the fish are nice ! :D
Good deal, W.E., nice job. ;)

I've been warned about letting them dry out and pretty much believe it. They also said not to put them back in the bag, but to throw them away. I put 4 of them back into the bag with 3 others that I had not used. All of them were still in fine shape yesterday and all caught fish. I did squeeze all the air out of the bag before re-sealing it though. The convenience and piece of mind you get, knowing you still have bait on your lures using the GULPS is fantastic. The price of .50cents each is a little high, so I'll keep reusing any I can until I do see a real problem with doing so.
And Whale.
I was always the kid who stared for hours at all the colors of everything that dad would shoot or catch. From Green Head Mallards to Pheasants to the black dots on Rainbow Trout. Nature paints some awful beautiful pictures don't she? I'll never tire of viewing her work.

Leather is right!! They are supposed to be biodegradable in the water so they recommend after use you just toss em in the lake! They are expensive and smell awfull! I'll be putting a bunch of these grubs to use at Lac Suel in Canada in a few weeks. Hoping they'll dupe a 30" er or two! Maybe I'll try the re-use trick and see how they hold up.

I have never tried the Gulps. How tough are they (before drying out?) Do they hold up to multiple fish? I understand they sort of disolve, how long would one last? Thanks.

They look, feel and smell worse than the real thing. I caught 4 walleyes on the same GULP worm on June 4th. Even though there were holes in the worm, I moved the second hook around to make a new hole every time and it worked fine. And only yesterday did I have a gulp that got the tail nipped off. But even at that, there was enough of it left to intice a new biter. Personally, I like them and would highly recommend them.

The ones I'm using are the Naturals, NightCrawler and Punkinseed flavors. This technique is pretty new to a lot of us. Let us know about your success or lac of on Erie would ya?

I will definitely post results, good or bad. I bought the natural crawlers in the jar and a couple different colors of the 7" turtle back worm in the bags. Really looking forward to trying them in the morning. I hope to post good news tomorrow.

Nice job. It's good to see that things are off to a great start after last year. So how's that T-8 working out? Gotta luv it. The boat control I'm getting with my new kicker this year has made a big difference in the number of fish I'm putting in the boat.

You mean the TR-1 Auto Pilot mounted on the High Torque-8horse Yamaha. As the geek in the Dodge commercial says "SWEET". Ya know, I'm starting to think that new kicker (and the GULPS) just may be part of the fish catching difference this year some how.
My good buddy who's fishing the MWT this weekend and who I consider a real good fisherman Zeroed today. And he says just about everybody else he talked to did as well. Only fish being caught the last couple days are being caught up near AuGres. I gave him my numbers for the East side, but with 10 to 20 N NW winds predicted for tomorrow, she'll be nasty on my side of the world. And that trip agains't the waves all the way to AuGres will be brutal.

Used Gulps on Saturday in Erie. It was a tough day, high wind and a bit rough and floating weeds. I was out by myself so I was struggling to keep everything going. I got one with the Gulp, but I heard several guys on the radio cleaning up using them in front of Fermi and off Stoney Point. I hope to give it another shot tonight or tomorrow.

I can attest to the fact that the winds on Saturday and Sunday were brutal. My boat may never speak to me again. We went to Au Gres both days and managed five-fish limits each day, but we had to work hard at it. Pre-fishing the same areas Wed through Friday was pretty decent, with good numbers of 4-6 pound fish brought in. The cold front Friday night surely didn't help. By the way, we pre-fished with Gulp on our spinners and found no difference in our catch rates as compared to real crawlers on the other side of the boat. For whatever reason though, we just couldn't bring ourselves to use the "fake" crawlers during the actual tournament.
