Does anyone know how the fishing has been lately on Mullet Lake? We will be heading up there for a week around the 4th of July. Any tips for finding panfish or bass on this lake?
Thanks for any help and I will post a report when I get back.

There are huge rock bass in the lake, but not a whole lot of other abundant, easy to find panfish (white bass roam the open water). The smallies are as big as they've ever been! Unbelievable weights at the Michigan BASS federation tournament last weekend. 1st place was 5 bass weighing over 26 pounds!!!!! They were culling 5 pound bass!
People with 19 pound catches were finishing in the 30th place range. The federation fishes a state tournament on that chain every 3rd or 2nd year and the bass have progressively gotten bigger each time in the dozen or so years they've gone up there.
One of my partners and I won the federation tournament with just under a four pound average in 2000. This year, just under four pound average wasn't even close to the money. Amazing.
The bass will be finishing bedding in the next week or so and will start drifting out off points and rock bars by the time you are up there. I'd just go from point to point and start shallow in the morning, then working slowly out into 8 to 15 feet until I started catching bass.
The bass in the lower half of the lake may move much deeper than 15 feet by midsummer, but a lot of the upper lake bass stay reasonably shallow moving in small schools. Good luck.
