I am currently in the process of re-fletching some arrows of mine and I was wondering if anyone has any hints about getting the old fletch and the glue off of carbon arrows. I am worried that if I use any chemicals or scrape the shafts, that I may damage the shaft in some way. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What I do is use a dull knife, use light pressure and scrape the old glue off. If you use a sharp knife it can cut into the fibers. I then clean the shaft with alcohol (91%isoproplyl). I use a jo-jan multi fletch and have good luck. I have also used the bitzenberg jigs.

Right on the sames lines as mentioned above. However you want to watch how you hold the knife. You want to ensure that the only thing removed is the glue. If you dig into the carbon arrow, you might as well trash it. It is not worth an injury, i know from expirence. I dug into the shaft a tid bit and removed a tiny hair sliver of carbon, thinking no big deal, wrong idea. It exploded upon release at the riser. Good-Luck

Ultramag- You've received good advice and instructions. I have refletched carbon arrows hundreds of times and some arrows many, many times w/o incident. Follow the advice given and you should have no problems. I usually dip and crest my arrows and because the vane or feather has a painted surface to adhere to you very seldom ever lose one from normal shooting, in fact almost never. Whatever you do don't use solvents other than the alcohol mentioned as most will eat away at the carbon. This is the time of year I get to experiment w/ different colors and cresting designs, as well as, different set-ups. I enjoy all of the tinkering and tweaking, hope you do as well. Best of luck and have fun.
