opted to go north as opposed to local or west....launched from dnr site.3 miles in on east side of lake..talked to gentleman pulling out(8;15) as we were putting in..his words....nuttin..don't waste your time!.well for the first 3 and 1/4 hours he seemed like a prophet...threw gulp,tubes, and dozen or so lures at them..comb. trolling and casting..one bump for our efforts.then at 11;30 our first fish..from then on,the next 2 1/2 hours the action was continual....eyes, pike, crappie....the only thing that kept us from a limit, was size of the northerns and deciding to call it a day.......one crappie went nearly 13 inches, the best eye a little over 17,largest pike stretched to 23 1/2........We found the fish(all of them) in 12 foot of water..approximately 4 to 4.2 miles north of our launch site(on east side of the lake), appeared to b fresh weed at the 8/9 foot level and fish were just to the deeper side in 12 foot. Until then deeper,shallower or the weed beds action was light,talked to numerous people some trolling,some drifting,some still fishing..they described things as 'slow'.my first 2 fish came on a green over chartreuse clatter tad 2 3/8 inch size, wench switched to the same lure and from thaT point not 5 minutes went by without a hit or fish.barometer read 29.94..surface temp was 65+ winds south to southwest 9 to 13 mph..water clariy was fair(i've seen her cleaner),skys overcast most of day.........Was delighted with ride home,with exception of rain induced slow down,did the speed limit all the way home!

sounds like a great trip, I took my two sons out Sat. evening for a couple hours. We landed a few hammer handle pike for our efforts. Dad spent most of the time untangling lines as the boys are still learning to cast. I noticed alot of mayfly larvae hulls floating on the water. That might have an effect on fishing for a little while eh? Nice job again.

I'd love too, but I know nothing of Gull Lake and I have to work :rant: I have about 30 more years before I can retire and fish all day. 40 more if all of you old farts take all of the Social Security money........

well..er..um...posession of my faculties.duh..its a crapshoot.................The other is old story..made and lost wealth several times, but..you know, it doesn't seem to matter when you can feel the waves slapping against the boat or see the ripples spiraling outward from the lure hitting the water! or share the tales,tragedies and successes with fishin buds!

actually doc.its not so bad..wench has 2 weeks changeover and 3 weeks vacation between now and oct 1.another friend will b free starting thursday...have acouple other commitments(plus thurs nites and the 26th)..its, just.well i could fish everyday.and for a long spell...and when u get to thinkin at my age..like satchel paige..."don't look back,sumpin might b gainin on ya".........every mornin is like....hmm its mornin, i'm breathin, lets fish!
