Camping -- fishing within 30 min from tawas

Totally new to this area and will be heading there for an anniversary celebration. Looking for somewhere to camp and perhaps a stream to fish in the general area. Must be accesible by car and does not need to have anything special, just somewhere i can set up a tent and perhaps fish as well. Anyone that has an reccomendations that would be great!

I believe Lumbermans Mounument on the backwaters of the AuSable has a campground and I belive the other large campground there is Old Orchard Park on the Backwaters of Foote Dam Pound. All within a half hour of Tawas.

there is an old national forest campground on the south shore of the river. maybe someone knows the name. its reel rustic.also tawas point state park. I once woke up with my girlfriend(now my wife of 20 years) and was in a washout gully created by a thunderstorm that night.had to go to the local laundromat to dry all our stuff.fond memories, being young and in love we thought it was fun.

19 bucks to camp at the state park yikes! Guess i'm just use to camping wherever you want.

Huron National Forest
For Reservations and info call 989 362-4477; Loud Dam to Oscoda, Tawas City.. 86 campsites
They are rustic but very affordable, want to say we paid 5 bucks per day?

They are spread out and have a lot of privacy. Many of them are on the water. Fishing and hiking abound. They meet your rustic criteria.

We have camped there in the past and had a blast. Some of the campsites are better suited for fishing. PM me if you need any additional info.

Rifle River Recreation Area 8 mi. east of Rose City has several lakes and the Rifle is close by.
